Not sure how it is elsewhere, but this feels like the last week of spring in vt. At bromley today (where I spent the cost of one of my magic passes on tickets for the family) and lifts are ski on, half empty and what snow there is is melting fast. Stratton cams show the place is almost empty. With rain coming and warmer temps all week, new years looks like a washout. Magic may not be open until January 5th at this rate with 1.5 ways down for mlk.
I don’t see how magic gets open by 1/6. Only marginal snowmaking temps next week. Trending warmer.
maybe they get lucky and get wand to show off open?

Looks like low 20’s all night next week. That hopefully should be enough to get them open.

With the forecast through Friday I don’t see why it will get any better in terms of people coming up
As already mentioned, a lot of people are just driving up today. There were quite a few more cars than I'm used to on the Thruway heading north (many with skis) on my drive up to VT today. The forecast will cause some cancellations, but there are also people that might view this as one of their few family vacation chances to ski...so they're going to come up and try to make the best of it. The 26th itself isn't a good gauge of how crowded it will be. Now who knows, maybe some people will drive up and just sit in their condos/hotels or find some non-skiing activity to do with the weather the next couple days.

Models not handling this storm/post storm and pattern change well. GFS - which is used by the pretty phone apps - is warm. Euro way colder - and last past week we saw the same thing with forecasts 5 days out - euro won fyi. That said not a huge surprise if cold gets delayed. Pattern does look promising and there are several opportunities for a friendly storm, though nothing agreed yet. Think snow. Skis crossed.

Also agree that most downstate tourists come up 26 or 27. We’ve been here but have older kids now. No skiing yet since arriving, and tomorrow doesn’t look promising.

Every lift at Okemo was ski on today except for the bubble 6, which often was 5 min plus. We just used the singles line. The bubble 4 never had a line. Very odd!

Back to Mount Snow for whatever the rest of the week brings us. I suspect pinball and ice skating will be in our near future.

Good news is that work continues on black and the load test barrels are on site. They plan to have it open for MLK. So I suppose they can say it was ready for opening weekend. Hopefully this year turns around because this has to be financially a killer for them.

Big hit financially for sure with little revenue Christmas week, and the number I heard for this summers flood remediation was north of 700K. Hopefully it snows soon.

The way the winter is going MLK weekend may be opening day for them.

Magic social media has pictures of the Nelson learning area with a handle tow looker's left starting at the bottom. I thought there was the carpet there and the handle tow was going to be installed above that to the top of the slope? What am I missing.

The handle tow you see is used to access the terrain park. The handle tow above the carpet has not been installed yet. I believe they’ve been talking about finishing that one for around 4 years now

Oh jeeze I didn't even notice the lodge and/or "T-Bar" in relation to the tow. Right you are, not even the learning area.

Per FB the rebuild is underway, and there's at least one - implied more than that? - new portable 10' HKD Phazer on site and running.

I can't talk smack about opening day performance, something about people living in glass houses not throwing stones. I will note that this year it was the state and permitting, not an unexpected mechanical/system issue. That bodes well for their performance in a year where they aren't rebuilding the pond.

Their pictures show air water in use well below the the finish line hut on Show Off. Does that provide evidence that the fan guns plugs are inoperable on Show Off? Which if true would be why they were not able to run them there on the 300 while they were on the 400 up top before Xmas?

Inconclusive IMHO. Ever since Ski Magic Inc took over and bought the new HKDs and 2 electric compressors Showoff has always been tackled via HKDs if memory serves. Also, there are only 8 - again if memory serves me - electric outlets on ShowOff. Regardless if my count is off, they do not have outlets for each hydrant - half at best.

Good to see temps cooperated enough to keep the guns on all da today. The phasers (3 of them) helped at the very bottom of the line up on ShowOff.

Hopefully temps cooperate enough this week. And if we can just get the Sunday storm to cooperate and NOT slide to the south that would be a big help - for everyone!

Think snow❄️!

It's January, they aren't open, and they've turned off guns all today and tonight despite temps at the base barely breaking freezing and a low in the mid 20s tonight. My friend who is a full-time Magic pass holder and didn't get to ski over Christmas is done after this year, and I don't blame him. They need to be making every effort possible and that includes making snow in marginal temps.

I agree. That is what I don’t understand. If it’s marginal down low, then blow up top. They just don’t seem to be making an effort at all except in the park, which makes NO sense. Black now scheduled for “sometime in January.” FFS, they haven’t even committed to having red open for MLK. I bought an ICON this year for the first time and already got my money out of it on days magic wasn’t open.
