What's up with the lifts closing at 3:30? I never remember them closing earlier than 4 in the past.

Guessing this time of year is about the amount of available daylight on mostly North facing slopes
I'm sure that's the reason but every other mtn is open til 4 and I can't recall them ever doing this in the past. I thought it was just going to be for early season but now it's holiday week and still closing early. Stuff like this isn't helping them attract any new customers or shake the mentality of only go to magic on powder days.

Not sure about the reasoning behind 3:30 close. But that’s not going to be what “shakes” people from going only on powder days. What will is Dec 27th skiing on deep, edge to edge snowmaking base on UMC, Medium, Trick, LMC, Vertigo, Wand, Showoff, Hocus Pocus and learning area. Unprecedented in the modern history of Magic.

We'll be there tomorrow. I hate dealing with that stupid Entabeni system. I always show up half an hour earlier than I normally would when I know a ski area is using it. Somehow I ended up with 2 reservations for 1 kid and none for me. Seemed to happen when I put in the same email address for Johanna and myself. Then it wouldn't let me undo it. Couple other annoying issues with the system also, like when kids go from age 12 to 13 things get wonky. Hopefully straighten it out in the morning, it will be a good customer service test. Rule #1 of business, don't make me work to give you money.

The entenabi manual scanner guns for lifties drive me nuts. Let’s do this as inefficiently as possible!

It just seems like a poor decision to close early when your snowmaking is off to the best start ever. It's the kind of thing you would expect from vails corporate bean counters not from the place that prides itself on being anti corporate ski area.
And those hand scanner really do suck hopefully they upgrade to gates, if your gonna go rdif you should go with gates

they are still loading green lift today a few minutes after 3:30. maybe it just a summit lift thing time of the year thing.

Really enjoyable day today. Magic ended up running all three lifts today. They didn't have to fire up red around lunch but they did anyway.

limited terrain but what naturals were open were good and a few upper mountain tree runs had coverage.

groomers held up ok - fast and firm ...except the few spots where the sun got to kiss it this afternoon where it softened.

Indeed an excellent day! They definitely didn't need Red, but it was nice to have all 3 going. Decent crowd though, so I'd say things are looking up.

Guest Services took care of my Indy stuff no problem. Oddly enough the system had charged my pass one day but none for the girls. They had no clue why the reservation had 3 names on it, none being mine. Sounds like they're used to the these issues though. For some reason they gave me both a rfid and a wicket ticket, very odd. Of course the Entabeni console wouldn't take my credit card via tap, swipe or inserting. Had to entered manually.

Given where we have been past Christmases, complaints about scanners and closing time seem like bougie problems! The commitment to blowing snow this December has been a welcome change and actually makes the mountain a passable option for people that want to escape Christmas crowds.

I didn't realize so many other places close before 4, but it's still new for magic they always stayed open til 4 in the past. And closing 1 lift early is different than closing all the lifts early. Either way it's not a big deal just making an observation

Re: Red - it was not available last weekend due to repairs and I bet they wanted to put some hours on it and show everyone they have summit redundancy.

Re: December snowmaking commitment. This is not a new commitment. What is new is a working snowmaking system to start the year, and cold temps!

Much of the same on Saturday regarding lifts, was actually a fairly busy day but easily survivable with one summit lift, ran both anyways. Does send a good message. And unlike last season, where UMC was pretty crowded with both lifts running, having Green open redirected many beginners to the quiet and beautifully groomed LMC. Ditto on snowmaking, cold temps made it possible but credit where it's due for getting nearly all the east side snowmaking runs open before New Years.

Sadly looks like by the time the rain/warm temps are done most of the base will be gone on the natural stuff, probably enough cold temps later in the week to finish up Carumba/Lower Red/Hocus...maybe then Tali afterward?

Do I need my physical Indy pass to get my tickets? Generally haven’t at other mountains. Berkshire east closed today so thinking of making trek up. Stupidly left my Indy passes at home

No. Your physical Indy pass is a token for schmucks who really wanted a cool pass photo piece of plastic. It’s completely useless except for at a handful of RFID enabled areas.
