I'd have to imagine that there were culverts in these ruts that got washed out during the storm, right? Or at least culverts could be used to repair the ruts both there and elsewhere. The area with the most damage is at the HOM-Bailout intersection - even with the two big storms late last season there was at most a foot-wide snow path across a pretty big damage zone. The stuff on Wizard won't matter as much if they're just making snow over it.

How will the nats be looking if we get 6-12ish on Sunday night? Are some of them close?

I haven’t been on the hill since Sunday but I’ll be there tomorrow and most likely Monday too.

East side should ski nice as there is some base. Can’t speak to West but it could be good. 6-12 might not be enough on the steeps under the chairs but who knows.

I’ll chime back in after tomorrow.

I figured not the steepest stuff, but would be nice to see some of the stuff like Hallows and Wardrobe open, and maybe Goniff/Twilight are low angle enough to get open with about a foot? Fingers crossed!

I’d love to get into Twilight this weekend. Let’s see what opens off West tomorrow after Ski Patrol checks it out. Twilight on East Side Monday of the storm actually delivers??To be honest, just getting into West Side tomorrow will be nice thanks to the snowmaking efforts!

West side will be wizard and that’s it. Some more snow and heart of the magician and hallows come into play. Maybe sorcerer and talisman, doubt wardrobe. Steep stuff under the lifts is a ways out before I would ski it. Twilight zone always skis well with low snow—suspect some of it is that it gets blow off from trick, but also that it’s pretty well shaded and the terrain holds snow well.

As the bird Flys, less than 20 miles South at my condo at Mount Snow, have a solid, frozen 6" or so of base with 2-3" of fluff on top. Guessing Magic is similar... And as such, 6" of medium density snow, should get a bunch of rope drops...

Just my 2 cents

First double black rope dropped...Slide of Hans. Have to imagine the lower angle woods on that side won't be far behind.

Slide of Hans opening is a good sign for sure. But it is high on the mountain and snow blows into it - it’s also not that steep. I feel they need 4-6”+ to get other diamonds open and more for the steepest pitches - the Steep 7. Luckily the current forecast is for 1-2” tonight and now 6-9” Sunday night (though we are on north fringe so track of low is critical). But Magic has a great shot of being 80-90% open Monday - and based on cold week - next weekend too. Time to get it.

Magic performed exceptionally today. They completely absorbed the crowd. All 3 lifts ran. The lodge/restaurant was full but never crowded. Magic is one of the few mountains where more people elevate the vibe rather than bring it down. A lot of the groom was worn off by noon and there was a persistent cold wind towards the top but I would guarantee that everyone had a good time today. (The late snow helped a bit as well)

Why are they spinning the lifts at 9am on MLK instead of 8:30? I read that in yesterdays snow report
It's definitely a strange decision for a holiday with an overnight snow storm. They know it's gonna be packed

As busy as Magic was yesterday I only really saw “crowds” on UMC, the top of Red Chair and a few tops of trails on East Side. Wizard was the best I can remember after snowmaking and the trail was nice and wide. Great job snowmakers! Slide of Hans looked a little too bony for me but I saw lots of folks in it. Let’s hope the 6 inches predicted are that or better as it would help disperse the traffic even more. See you there tomorrow!

Excited to check it out tomorrow! If the rope droppings are underwhelming I may head to Mt Snow for the afternoon as it looks like North Face has all the nats open again. But fingers crossed that Magic gets enough stuff open!

so based on cruising around today I figure the following gets open with 6"-8"

mystery, twightlight zone( people were poaching it today), slide of hans(closed today) sorcerer and talisman, broomstick to blackline( maybe) hom.

I wouldn't go in any steep trees but lower angle should be fine, especially upper mountain.

still super low tide lower half of mountain
