Always is that chance when the line hasn't been used in 20 years but I thought they patched all the known issues a couple years back. Usually you charge to test repairs. Guess we'll see.

Was at Magic yesterday. They still have whales on Sorceror and particularly Talisman but were very crusty/icy on top so not fun. Didnt seem to be many skiing those from what I saw. Not clear why they havent spread out that man-made snow

I know at least one of the repairs was tested, but that doesn't mean I trust those lines without a shakedown run.

Actually I don't think I trust any of the lines on that hill completely, shakedown or no. Getting redundancy would be great - a cross feed in the pump room, another at the top of the 300 line, and another at the summit. Maybe a way to feed up Tali instead of down. Having ways to route around the problem and stay running would be nice. That said it seems to be going relatively smoothly, so the problems this year (I guarantee there were problems) were mitigated somehow.

I have pictures Ive uploaded in the past here that I try to upload again (just testing) and can't because they are too big. So this sites photo uploader / handler changed at some point. I want to take large, rich detailed photos with the phone. If they need to be smaller to post then the site needs to reduce/resize as needed, as it used to do. I'm not changing the quality or size of my photos just to post to this site.

Whatever really. This site is basically Katz memes, a sugarbush thread and utah transplants bitching about crowds now.

Something definitely changed. I had to substantially alter my export settings in Adobe Lightroom for photos I want to upload here. I found that I need to essentially limit the file size to 2MB max. Anything larger than that and it throws an error.

Witch/Blackline was worked on a few years back by Dowork and at the time he felt it ready. I believe they tested both lines this off-season. Only one way to know for sure. Water has been the issue, although temps aren’t good right now. But perhaps the warmth and a bit of rain today gets water flowing enough?

Not sure about Tali grooming plan, but a few days ago models had Thursday storm as rain. Would make more sense to push out after any rain, not before. Storm trending colder and now looks to be at least a net gainer - Sunday looks better too - so perhaps they’ll get at it.

Think snow peeps. Three storms in the slot and if they go our way….

Saturday was great. Twilight and Goniff were thin but very carveable. Glades were thin but good base there. HOM was surprisingly good too, lower part after Bailout/Link is unfortunately hard to ski because of some waaay overgrown bushes, ditto for Hallows last time I skied it. Whales on Sorcerer and Tali were fun but I think whether before/after the upcoming storm its time to push them flat, certainly before Presidents Weekend. Maybe its my edges but they've gotten pretty icy, and with the winds Saturday blowing all the loose snow it felt like another planet.

Good news is it looks like (at least on Opensnow) there's a good bit of snow in the forecast between Thursday, Saturday night into Sunday, and next week which could make for an almost wide open mountain for President's. At minimum it should be a good reinforcement for the stuff already open. Might make Magic reconsider making snow on Black Line for the time being (or not?).

It rained yesterday and last night right? After a bit of front end snow?

the refreeze should lock up the base well for the foot+ that will hopefully fall through Sunday.

Great day at Magic yesterday with solid 10” of light pow and no wind. Deeper in woods with earlier snow. Everything open except steepest 4. Basically a sell out with even lot C full, yet longest lift line was maybe 10 minutes, but most were under 5. Obviously tracked out quicker with Quad, but way slower than high speed neighbors. Woods still had clean lines into the afternoon, and one short but sweet line I had the honor of putting down the first 3 tracks (it was untracked at 10:30). Great to see them doing well, especially after last year. Pretty solid base for upcoming storms. Need the snow dances - the next one will need some luck to be all snow, but at worst a base building net gainer.

At least the sleet won’t blow away lol.
Actually got out on the open terrain in the beginner area at Mount Snow this morning for a few quick laps, and if the snow surface 20 miles or so North at Magic is similar to what it's like at Mount Snow, once Mother Nature turns the speed of the fan down multiple notches, it should ski really good! Silky smooth with the sleet/Snow mixture

The skiing was just great today. I drive up from CT on Thursdays so only a few hours. Talisman was so good I never went over to Sorceror because why trade the vertical for the runout. And I like Sorceror a lot. Certainly for the groomed slopes the snow is remarkably good. It looks like a really nice weekend. For those who need to reserve, get on it.

Spectacular blue bird day at Magic for Winterfest. 100% open, though steeps had expected obstacles but were doable for sure. Although a big crowd with Lot B full, basically no lifelines and uncrowded slopes. Fingers crossed for some more snow as the base is there.
