Yea but they do advertise that they will open for powder days during the week when there is 6+ in. I understand there running a business and private rentals are part of that but it's disappointing that there's no powder day for a storm that's supposed to be 1 ft+. No employees to open Tuesday is a bummer. I was there for a powder day last year and overheard some long time lift operators who were not happy having to work on there day off, something like "if management wants to open for a powder day they can run the lift I have things to do". They shouldn't advertise that they will open for powder days if they can't deliver, I'm with Hastur I don't know if it's worth buying a pass anymore
Well, you basically stated the issues with non continuous ops. Their employees likely have secondary jobs to fill in the pay gaps. You cannot expect them to hose that business to come running in on a normally closed day for powder days. Especially if the same have already shifted for private rental days bracketing said storm. I get what they say about powder day openings, but perhaps it's time to ditch that tidbit to offer a more consistent and reliable schedule.

Exactly they shouldn't say they will open for powder days if they can't, especially since there private rentals seem to be gaining popularity.
It would be great if they expand to 7 day operations in the future but I'm not holding my breath.

Who rents a magic mountain for a random Monday in January? Fancy bar / restaurant or wealth management outfit in Manchester? Equinox? Burlington is too far for an employee outing.

Just curious what type of company is close enough, with enough skiers, to do something like this.

My last company was like a dozen people and we couldn’t even agree on a restaurant for our holiday party.

Weird how they can find enough employees to open for private rentals on Monday and Wednesday, but not for public powder day in between on Tuesday. Maybe there are limited operations, requiring fewer employees, for private rental ?
I understand the staffing issues for powder day openings. But Magic makes the rules and sells the passes (they actually sell a midweek powder pass) based on powder day openings. Those rules should apply for Tues, private mountain rentals or not.

Having to look into my kids eyes and telling them there is no magic powder day this week and seeing their hearts break is a tough one as a parent ;)

lesson learned. I just won't give them money up front next year and will buy tickets as needed.

no biggie

Apparently they only have 1 rental date available the rest of the season (there were technically 2, but 1 of those dates was 1/21 so a little late for that one). I get the impression there are only certain dates they rent though, so not every day they are closed is available for rentals. I completely understand the argument from people that they should not advertise "Powder day openings" if they can't deliver on that. Without knowing how many days they offer for rentals in a season, difficult to know the potential impact on Powder days.

Website says rentals on Mondays and Wednesdays

Yes, but unclear if every Monday and Wednesday or just some. If they really have every Monday and Wednesday between now and the end of the season other than 1 already booked, that leaves little room for Powder Days and the argument they should stop advertising them is 100% valid. On the other hand, if they only offer some Monday and Wednesdays for rentals, then there's room for Powder Days (although they should be upfront about which days are reserved for rentals).

Nobody is happy they have rental Monday - and I'll bet that includes management too as I bet a pow day brings in more revenue than a rental. But their business model and future success really needs those rentals, and you can't just not do them because maybe you'll get a Pow day.

In any event, it is what it is. I am curious just how much gets skied off on the more challenging terrain. I don't think these groups are big, and if they are, due to a corporate event, I'll bet many of those people are not skiing Pitch Black or Magician etc.

So, Thursday could have tons of pow.

Edit - highly doubt they have rentals every Mon&Wed from here on out, but would be interesting to know which are booked.

2nd Edit - the calendar shows all the private mountain rentals.

Just looked at the calendar. That's an awful lot of Mondays and Wednesdays that have rentals. Which makes the argument that they should just stop advertising the whole "we'll open on a Powder day" thing 100% valid.

There are only 3 M/W days between now and Mid-March that don't have rentals (excluding President's week since they're open all week that week).

per their calendar they are pretty much booked out for the rest of the season on mon and wed. and since they don’t open for powder tuesdays like this week, for whatever reason, im not expecting any powder day openings the rest of the year.

dont wait for a ’powder day opening’ to redeem your Indy.
