So how was Ragged? That looks way better than anything I skied. The less steep woods off of green (pixie dust?) was my first run. That was fair. But my on trail experience of the steeper stuff was bad enough to keep me out of the other woods. It’s ok. Can’t win em all.
So how was Ragged?
Also pretty boney but I enjoyed exploring a new to me place. They were hosting a race and were pretty crowded. Very long waits for the 6, so I mostly skied the 4. I’d go back on a day with fresh snow.

Elvis lives! I went to Ragged today for my first time too and really enjoyed the place. Had an off duty Ragged patroller friend showing us around and was impressed with both the trails and their woods runs. Trails in good shape and woods pretty beaten in. Look forward to going back for a mid week fresh snow experience, The place seems to be in the middle of nowhere and no lodging to be had for miles around. It was crowded for a day tripping place. Really wanted to hit the boardercross course but it was closed, it looked pretty bad ass and huge fun. My initial impression is that Ragged may be better than Magic!Hey I was at Ragged yesterday, was pretty crowded all right. In addition to the race, the Barnyard Triple was down and it was the first Saturday after a big snowstorm. But the lifties did an excellent job of filling every single chair to keep the lines moving. Like you I had not been there before this year. The ravine/canyon between the two peaks was super fun to explore. I think I spotted you in line:

How would you feel about a mountain closing because of a snow storm?no powder day opening monday. closed for private mountain rental.
im beginning ro wonder why I buy a pass here.
if they allowed uphill I wouldn't be that pissed. How would you feel about a mountain closing because of a snow storm?
No joke. Blue Mountain and Elk in PA both closed for snow. On a Sunday. Cant make this up.
They had a college club racing event - McBrine division or some such. Also could not get a seat in BLT. Must have been racer parents as way more people in there than I saw all day on the hill. Only saw 4 people total in the glades all day. Had a clif bar and a beer at the vehicle while changing to a different set of skis.
They dont allow uphill. ever. trust me, it was on my mind. They did go as far on FB to answer that question with something like, "that would be trespassing and we would prosecute" or something like that. so, yeah, cant have people there to spin the lifts, but will have people there to watch for uphill traffic. got it.if they allowed uphill I wouldn't be that pissed.
always have the splitboard in the truck on powder / storm days.
This had started to get around the day before, that people were asking on FB. When i got there Sat am, i was pretty convinced they would close, but then i talked to a few lifties who were asked if the could come in early Sunday to start getting the lifts going. so i had some hope at that point, but when i saw Elk posted they were closing, i figured Blue would just follow. They not only closed, they preemptively closed. I can see waking up to an unexpected 3’ storm and not having employees - much less customers - be able to make it to the mountain and deciding to close.
Did nearby areas that opened have any issues? I don’t think so.
