Date(s) Skied: 1/7/05
Resort or Ski Area: Timberline
Conditions: powder / packed powder
Trip Report:
Just had to toss in a "southern" ski area to keep you folks honest. Its not a big area (1000' vert, really only 8 or 9 trails), with 2 lifts, slow & slower (a little like Magic Mtn in that regard). But great snow & non-existent crowds.
There had been about 4" of fresh, light powder the day before, with intermittent flurries thru the day on Saturday. All day, one could ski right onto the slower lift with no wait. The snow thru the morning was silken, with the “ssssshhhhh” sound to it that tells you it can’t get much better. Hard blue boilerplate northeast ice was non-existent. One run, “The Drop”, was outstanding. T-line calls it a double black, & while I wouldn’t go that far, it would certainly be a fine run anywhere. More amazingly, I saw only one other person on it during three runs. Price was hard to beat - $66 for three: $17 for my daughter in college, $49 for me, and FREE for my father (age 70 & up). Is this almost heaven or what?
