I wondered if anyone from AZ did the countdown on the slopes? I know Warp mentioned skiing Titus during that day. For our family, this was a way better way to celebrate the New Year. Here is the TR I just posted. I thought a few of you might be interested.

Celebrating the New Year in New York!!!

Ti..s is the place!!!

Not TIMES Square at the centre of Manhattan, but TITUS Mountain on the Northern edge of the Adirondack mountains a few miles south of the Whippleville near Malone, New York.

In the last days of 2013 I received an email from Titus informing me of their plans. I thought it would so cool. I had skied a number of times on the first day on New Year, but never at the stroke of midnight.
Quote from Titus:
This New Year’s Eve, we’re pulling-out all the stops to ring in 2014 & you don’t want to miss it!

Great food & beverages, LIVE entertainment, nightskiing & much, much more!
Our lifts will be OPEN ’til 1am on New Year’s Day! For the FIRST TIME, you can lay down the FIRST TRACKS of the New Year!
As midnight approaches, you can enjoy our Torchlight Parade down the main slope in front of our expanded lodge & patio area . . .
. . . and, at the stroke of midnight as the last torch goes out, the FIREWORKS explode over the mountain!
The North Country has never seen a New Year’s celebration like this! Join us & welcome in 2014 the Titus way!
It was something that I had looked for New Year 2000, but I didn’t find. Now we were going into 2014 and a family ski area few miles south of the border was going to make it happen. The month of January 2014 was also a personal skiing milestone for myself.

Not a club.

January 2014 marked the 100th consecutive month I've skied (on snow). The ski streak started in October 2005 at Wildcat NH and I have been skiing at least once a month ever since.

New Years and Fireworks made it one more reasons to go skiing at Titus.

I was there in October 2005 too but not had your streak.

I had always missed out on October turns in the years that Killington would do it annually back in the 1980s and 1990s due to midterm exams. When the huge storm hit, I kicked myself in going for it. At one point during that season I started to think that I had for a long time wanted to ski every month of the year and that year was to try it. I had gone to Mammoth the previous June for my 40th bday and return to get my June and July turns. That was followed by a family vacation in the PNW with a little time left for some August and September turns. Then there was early snow at Jay so I went hiking and its been going on ever since.

Where do you typically go in August and September?

2006 - Mt Hood
2007 - Chile
2008 - Chile / Argentina
2009 - Argentina
2010 - Argentina / Chile
2011 - Alps (France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria) visiting my in-laws.
2012 - Mt Hood

You don't need to get rich to make it happen, its a matter of choice in life. From 2006 to 2010, I had only needed a 13-15 days trip down to South America. Once the airfare is out of the way, you can travel pretty cheap down there. For the 2011 trip, it was our first return to Europe in 8 years visiting family and friends so we were over there for 6 weeks - I managed 7 days on 6 different glaciers.

I've posted this summary link before - each day as its own TR. I did a summary TR for my Patagonia trip back in 2010. There are a few other TRs, but I didn't post any compilation about the other years.

Well done Sir !!!! Glad you and the family had an eventful evening . Titus does have limited terrain at nite but, what we call the Backside is more interesting than the Face , Sunset, Whistler ,Promise , Ravine Run and Rock Garden are. Fun

But the real attraction is the Upper Mtn longer steeper trails . Nothing there is really steep by major venue standards . vertical up top about 700 or so continuous etc .kids love the bridge over the road and tunnel trails . the rest of us love the cruisers there

The vibe, low density , price , retro ambiance and the staff at Titus all make for an enjoyable experience .

Our posse was there till 5 on New Years Eve then we had to get back here to Sparkle City  For some fun here.
