to my fellow domestic abusers of skis - what has been most bombproof?

Moment skis are impossibly durable. I've got 3 pairs and beat the crap out of them on all sort of non-snow surfaces and they won't quit.

my old moment belafontes are one of my favorite skis ive ever had. i may circle back with them. they make the deathwish in a 90-something i think

So I must be in the vast minority. I ski the Salomon QST 106 and it is perfect for everything Sugarbush other then skiing all day icy bumps. I use my Black Crow Camox for that. The QST106 has and 18m raduis, 106 under foot and tip rocker. It skis super fast on groomers and edges perfect. it smooths out the mixed snow condtions. it turns exactly like you want it in the woods around tight trees and floats in powder. The idea that you have to ski 80mm or less is antiquated.

i am definitely in your camp on this one. i am seeking the 90-something ski to round out a quiver that includes a 106 and a 116. the 116s only get on planes. the 106s are for fresh snow in the east. and the 90-somethings are for day to day. anything narrower would feel squirrelly and (to throw a totally subjective standard into the mix) LAME

Its not a flex, its what's comfortable for the individual.

I ski fast and want something thats stable on groomers, but is light and playful and can handle bumps and trees. For me that works out to be the Ripstick 96. that might not work for you or anyone else.

i am tempted by the ripstick black. partially because ive adopted a full darth vader look. all black from head to toe. but a tiny flash of pink on my helmet. i guess the pink bit isnt very darth vader.

not gonna lie, the all black top-sheet was a factor in choosing the armadas, after my research confirmed they were what i was after. they skied very well til i broke them. they skied fine after i broke them too. im gonna try to get thru the season on them and the 106s and then deal with this when things are bigly on sale

my buddy has the black edition. I'm going to ski them one of these weekends. we have the same boot sole length. Usually we talk about it and Apres (ie 10 AM) beers get in the way LOL

I wish I had enough money to have a quiver lol. I've owned 4 pairs of skis in 26 years of skiing. Some crappy Elans when I was a kid. A crappy pair of Heads that I had in high school and college that are now my rock skis. A pair of Nordica Steadfasts that I blew out in Utah so those are gone. And now for the past 4 years Nordica Enforcers (100s) are my "daily driver" or rather...my only skis that aren't totally trashed. Groomer days, powder days, bumps, trees, whatever. They're what I use.

I used to get a pair of new skis every few years, and the old skis they replaced were my rock skis, never had more than 2 pair.

This year I have 80s, a pair of relatively short 90s (started back in trees last season), and now used enforcer 100s from the killington ski swap. I’ve used the 90s most so far.

I don't know how you do that Zand. I guess it takes disipline.

I am a ski junkey. The right amount of skis is N+1.
I have 1 pair new I just mounted. 2 pair that are in the newish rotation, 3 pairs that are considered rock skis that are 5 to 10 years old but still have some life and 2 pairs that I consider museum peices that are in mint condition but too old. I will some day take them out. One is a pair of mint Hart F-17, 195cm mogul skis. Maybe 3 days on them. Still sharp. the other is a pair of Rossi 7G's, 210cm with about 10 days on them. They have huge steal your face sickers on the tips. They were so fast in the day. I will once again take them out to ski a Jester Cross or bomb down spring fling.

Admittedly I don't do great with hardpack but on softer groomed trails they're easy to carve. Bumps I'm still working on. Was fine with the Steadfasts but these feel like they weigh twice as much, not as quick on my feet with them. I felt fine in the soft spring bumps at Killington last year but on the harder mid winter bumps it's hard for me to keep any kind of rhythm. I'm mostly in the woods when they're available and the Enforcers are great in there so that good enough for me. They're great in crud too.

i tend to have 3 in rotation at a time. i have a trashed but mounted pair of dps in storage which is technically a 4th. prob time to trash them tho

i rotate the bindings. the daily driver typically lasts about 2 seasons and the wider skis are used less and last longer.

but ya, the way i like to ski low tide woods in new england every weekend, i burn thru skis pretty damn fast.

always good deals to be had on 1-3 year old unused stuff just sitting around. especially in the summer. level9, powder7. some other good online retailers out there

I've had good luck with Atomics the past several seasons. The Bent 90s are a really good bump/tree ski. Had the vantage 95s before that that i'd still be skiing if I didnt change to boots that have the grip walk. Get the occasional core shot but havent blown out an edge like I've done on every pair of Volkls that I've owned
