Pretty cool collection can be found here.

I still get chills watching the USA Hockey team beat the Soviets. I was just 7 at the time. I remember that the game was on delay that day. It was a lot easier back then to avoid a score than it is now.

Hard to imagine any sporting event that might top that one. 2 of my uncles were at the game........

Biased towards what's on video too, obviously. Otherwise I'd say Teddy Ballgame's last at bat should be up there too...

Hmmm - interesting topic. OK - just the ones I personally witnessed (on TV):

1 - 1980 US/Soviet Olympic hockey game - nothing else is really even close.

2 - Red Sox comeback against the Yanks in 2004.

3 - The 1969 Miracle Mets upset the O's.

4 - Villanova upsets Georgetown to win 1985 NCAA basketball title. 'Nova shot 80% from the floor and still only won by 2.

5 - Tiger Woods holes out chipshot on #16 at Masters in 2005.

6 - Insanely out of control run wins Franz Klammer downhill gold at Innsbruck in 1976.

7 - NY Giants hammer Denver to win 1987 Super Bowl.

8 - Borg beats MacEnroe for Wimbledon title in 1980. Remember back when mens' tennis used to be fun to watch?

9 - Bo Jackson - doing anything.

10 - Ali vs Frazier in Manila. Brutal.

Possibly the best in-person sports event I ever witnessed was Bo Jackson making a diving catch, stretched out parallel to the ground in center field at Fenway Park. Then he came up in the next inning and hit a home run about 450 feet off Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd. And this drove The Can completely nuts. He proceeded to have a stomping fit so bad the Sox manager (Joe Morgan) had to come take him out of the game. It was hilarious. Thankfully, the Sox were winning about 8-1, so it was just funny.......

Wow - FLG - that is cool. That was the game. OK so I didn't remember the score very well (it was a long time ago and that was before they cut off beer sales in the 7th inning). But that catch was amazing and I actually wanted to write that he hit the ball 500 feet, but I thought people would think I was exaggerating! The ball was CRUSHED and hit the top of the brick wall behind the camera stand in dead center field. It also hit with such force that the ball almost bounced back onto the field.

Slightly off topic but with all these "YouTube" videos I thought of this. Did anyone here that Google is in talks with You Tube to buy it for over a billion dollars?????? You Tube is barely a year old and still isn't profitable. Why didn't I think of that! Greg lets put together a "sports tube" ;)

Back on topic (Kinda.) While were on the subject of sports and sports icons. I can confidently say that something unique about me is that I have been yelled at by both Whitey Ford and Bobby Thomson for innocent offenses. :) Separate incidents, no less.

In another life, I worked in PR for HBO.

Bobby Thompson at Shot Heard 'Round the World premiere" He had to get up to do a speech. The theatre was steep. I had to walk behind him to make sure he didn't fall (at his family's request) He didn't take to that so well and yelled "I TOLD YOU I CAN DO THIS MYSELF" at me in front of about 300 people.

Whitey Ford: 61* premiere:

Beano: Mr. Ford we'd like for you to do a few interviews for us with the press.
Whitey: GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME AND LEAVE ME ALONE! I'M NOT DOING ANY INTERVIEW TONIGHT.

I also got to ride in one the Yankee ticker tape parade in a convertible after a WS win.

Many of your suggestions are way better than several in the link. The Mets winning the WS and the Jets winning the SB should be right up there. Being a Giant fan the SB win over Denver was great but I don't think it's Top Ten worthy.

On my personal list would be the Knicks beating the Lakers for the NBA title back around 1970 when Willis Reed hobbled out on the court, sunk his first shots and dominated Wilt the rest of the way.

Hmmmm.... I'm thinking more "moments" and less full seasons or games.
Personal favorites, of course...

Miracle on Ice
The Drive
The Catch
The Miracle in the Meadowlands
Carton Fisk "willing" the fair ball
"I wannnnna kissshhh youuuu....."
Randall Cunningham's 90 yd. punt
Foulk flip to Meintkewitczcgxzcvzvckzxvckzx for the WS sweep.

I'm sure I can think of more.
