2 years since the horrific crash on the Taconic.

There was a documentary on HBO last night, but I don't have HBO - anyone see it?

Still a baffling mystery as to what happened to Diane Schuler

That was a terrible accident. And it's still shrouded in a lot of mystery. I wonder if we'll ever find out what really happened.

I don't understand how the coroner's report could have found high levels of alcohol in her system, including some in her stomach that hadn't been digested yet, and THC levels that indicated that she smoked within an hour of the crash if it was anything else other than her being drunk and high. No medical condition that I've ever heard of produces alcohol and THC. A very tragic event, the way that the husband so vehemently denies it makes me think that he knows exactly what happened, but doesn't want to be held liable.

There's something wrong with Aunt Diane.

Watched it last night. I made it up until one of the people who got there first was interviewed. When he started talking about the kids he broke down and I have to admit, so did I. Its very disturbing but I think the question as to whether or not she was drunk and high has been answered. Why, that's the mystery. It's pretty obvious that she didnt have a propensity to get drunk very often unless about 40 people are lying.

so sad. They actually show pictures of her at the scene, rather gruesome but thankfully they didnt show the kids.

i walked in for the last 10 minutes of it, my wife and son were watching.

having caught only the tail end of the show it sure seemed like the family was in denial. the closing scene was absurd - the woman (sister or something, a blonde who looked 50ish) was smoking a cigarette and said to the camera," don't air this, nobody in my family knows i smoke." wait, you can hide that from your family but the woman who died (don't get me wrong, the whole thing is a huge tragedy) couldn't have possibly hidden her behavior from the family?

Maybe she was really good at hiding her problems?

Could very well be the case. Even with friends and family, unless you're with somebody many hours a day, day in and day out, you may think that you know someone, when in reality there's plenty that they can be hiding from you

I didn't see the special, all I can find is news stories about the accident and the husband and other family members strongly disagreeing that should could have been drunk or high. The evidence seems pretty solid, I couldn't understand how the family was (is?) denying it?

can definitely happen. Had an employee a few years ago die of an Oxycotin overdose. He was a stellar employee and showed zero signs of having dependency issues.

I live close to the Taconic and drive on it pretty much daily. There are some very confusing entrances where it is very possible to enter going in the wrong direction if you are not focused.

I think she was wasted and made a horrible mistake; her husband's denials only make me feel there was something else going on and that maybe it was intentional, in the sense that she freaked out about some life issue.

Why the police can't figure it out only means it is hard to prove someone's intentions posthumously.

Just read an article stating that the husband is now suing NY State saying the taconic isnt properly designed or clearly signed/marked. And if that isnt bad enough, the lowlife pos is suing the mother and father of the three children his own wife killed. They had borrowed the other families minivan and the husband is claiming it was faulty.

I saw most of it last night, will finish it tonight.

Some thoughts:

- It was telling when Daniels mom said he was his wifes oldest child. He's still acting like a child. You can see it in his eyes - he's in way over his head.

- Diane Schuler was pretty obviously affected by her mom leaving when she was 9. And she was burying it down deep, always not a good way to handle things like that.

- It is very possible to be a closet alcoholic and hide it from your family.

- It was interesting to see the high school friends talk so highly of her, then later on say they hadn't seen her in 10 years, hadn't gone to her wedding etc.

- Like JimG said, it can be confusing when you enter the Taconic. But, why do you keep driving? You would think that even drunk it would be hard not to notice the cars coming straight at you.
