Does anyone know of a trail that you can ski between Pico and Killington? I have heard that there is something you can ski or at least partially ski between the 2. Any info would be great. Thanks

There is no interconnecting trail right now. I have heard that people have skied a service road from Pico to K but I don't know where it is. Maybe Geoff will provide some more info. The interconnection has been in the plans for years but lack of funds prevents it from going forward.

I also hear that AMC is posing a strong opposition to any type of developed trail in between the two mountains.

That development, which was started in the late nineties, has been on hold and will be indefinitely. We've asked Kmart about it in the last AZ Challenge, and they've admitted it is on hold. Issue: lack of money. The road/trail was cut, and I recall a thread on this a little while back. Basically, the conclusion was one could ski down Pico and almost get to Ram's Head, but it would require crossing a stream and a brief hike back uphill.

Yep, the road is clearly visible from the top of the K1 gondola, or from the top of "Rime."

So it looks like the trail ends up about 1/2 mile down the road for Ramshead???

Sounds about right. I've noticed that trail a number of times as I drive down the Access Rd. At least from that angle it looks very interesting and tempting.

I am pretty sure it is service road that the big K uses to bring cats to and from Pico. There may be a pipe burried as well...

There's a sewer pipeline buried underneath that will eventually pump the wastewater from the new Killington Village to Rutland. I've walked down it quite a few times in the summer. My favorite Killington hike is to park across the street from the Inn at the Long Trail and take what's now called the Sherburne Trail to the top of Okemo and then walk down the pipeline road to just below Rams Head. It's nice & easy on the knees going down. It's _VERY_ flat at the top and no more than an intermediate pitch at the bottom. In the winter, it's a well used road to shuttle snow cats between the maintanence shed at Killington and Pico so I presume you can skate the flat part rather than slog through untracked snow.

You can also traverse out to the steeper part of it from Rams Head and slog back to the lift through the old ski lift bone yard.

Route 4 to Okemo? Man, that is a long day hike   I'm sure you meant Pico

And why would they bury a waste water line up over that mountain when they could probably run it along Route 4?

K - Pico Interconnect is an Act 250 scam

The "alledged" Pico/K-mart interconnect is a scam. It's not going to happen. That was all a scam for snowmaking/greywater/wastewater permitting under Act 250.

Wow! Did I type Okemo? Serious brain fart!

A sewer pipeline down the Killington access road and up Route 4 to the Sherburne Pass would be a solid 6 or 7 miles. Blowing it up to the top of Pico cuts it down to ~2 miles and you don't have to pay to repair the Access Road and Route 4 after you dig them up. I'm sure running it up to Pico was much cheaper.

With the Xmas and January ASC just had in New England, I wouldn't look for it anytime soon. 8)
