anyone have any experience with this stuff?? I have a few UA long sleeve and short sleeve running type shirts that are light weight and breath very well, however, how does the "COLD GEAR" work? Does it really work or is it marketing hype?

I wear the turtle neck under my shell. Keeps me warm in any temperature. But then again I am a freak, still have all my vents open at 10 degrees......

I have a long sleeve UA shirt that is terrible for a skiing base layer. Not sure if it is "cold gear" or not, but I think it has some stretchy material instead of being 100% poly based and the result is a wet base layer when I start sweating. I sure will not be buying UA for skiing base layers ever again. Perhaps a good running/hiking shirt for cool days but even then the wicking is very poor which is still a concern.

This year I bought or was given Under Armor and Rossi "technical" and Nike " dri fit" base layers . The Rossi also had pants that cut off just above teh boot line

I find them to be the best base layers i 've used.

Often skiing in serious windchill at Tremblant, Whiteface and other northern dacks and staying warm and dry

Under Armour is all the rage this year and is grabbing market share from companies like Polarmax, Serius and Hot Chillys faster than a kzoner says "Powdr sucks". The compressionwear plays in perfectly with the vanity buyers and although I have never tried them, the people I have talked to really like them.

If your still using cotton or wool as undergarments and your ending the day as a messy ball of sweat which will not only make you cold but also fogs up the goggles, they are definately worth a check.

I've love my UA gear. I have a two long sleeve mock t-necks. One is clearly heavier than the other. I have a pair of the compression shorts as well. My usual line-up consists of the heavy long sleeve and the compression shorts under my ski pants and jacket. In really cold temps a toss a Patagonia Capilene (spelling?) over the UA top. Works for me.

UA cold gear is great but it is not much different from the Nike or many other cheaper brands like champion. I usually wear champion base layers that I get from target for about $15. I will break out the UA on a very cold day because I have found that it is the only time there is a difference.

I think the UA cold gear is pretty good but if you're looking for a base layer that provides lots of warmth take a look at something made from Polartec Power Stretch. Unless it's very cold out I usually don't use it cause I find it too warm.

I have a few turtlenecks and mocks in different weights of silk that work great for me. They're probably too warm for spring weather, but when it's cold, I'm glad they're on underneath and I don't notice anything clammy against my skin after I've been up there a while. Definitely worth the extra $$ over a plain cotton layer any day.

Anything is better than cotton. When you are just sitting around cotton is ok, but any activitie were you sweat it is bad. When cotten gets wet, it stays wet, making you cold. Under armour(and other companies like it) are made from synthetic materials(I believe poly propalien(sp)) They pull the moisture away from your body keeping you dry and warm.

UA does some killer marketing. See a lot of it coming into the shop. When I question the wearers - 70% seem to really like it. Coincidentally, about 70% have compared it to nothing but 'waffle-style' stuff.

Lifa ProWool...Helly-Hansen Warm.....I use these. I'm typically cold. W/ this stuff and, a good shell I'm comfortable to 10-15 degrees.

Nike Dry Fit and my jacket works fine for me on a moderately cold day and on extra cold days, I just throw an extra layer of fleece (nothing fancy - sometimes one from Old Navy) on top of the base layer and I am good to go. I should probably mention that I don't sweat much and so I don't get cold too quickly (except in my boots).
