Since I live in NYC & only go up to New England in the winter for the most part I was wondering if anyone knows how road reconstruction is coming along. I've read that Rt. 4 from Mendon to Killington is open again which is great news after seeing the devastation. Also Rt. 4 from Killington to Bridgewater is open. I use these sections of road often. What I haven't heard anything about lately is Rt. 7 south of Rutland where the bridge was washed out. Is that road open or is it still detoured? Another section of road I often use to get to northern VT. ski areas is Rt. 73 (Brandon Gap). I saw that the bridge at the very end of the road where it connects to Rt. 100 was washed out & therefore no way to connect to Rt. 100 (near Rochester). Have they been able to construct a temporary bridge there yet to open the road? Up & down Rt.100 had sections washed out. Have they been able to fix the roads? I'd be interested to hear any word about efforts to open these roads & others from people that may know. Also what kind of condition any reopened roads are in.

Rt 7 from Rutland to Bennington is fine. The only thing I encountered on Monday was a 1 lane contruction site on 7 somewhere around the Hoosick area. I would like to avoid that until its done

Was that East of where rt 22 comes in?? hopefully it will be done before winter otherwise that section will be really brutal on the Sunday rides back down south.

A temp bridge is going in right now at 73/100 in Rochester so that should be open in the next couple of days.
Route 100 between Waitsfield and Ludlow is completely open as I've driven it a couple times in the past few weeks. There are some rough spots and some on going construction so just take it easy as it can suddenly turn to gravel with little to no warning (too many washouts, not enough signs LOL).

Thanks for the links LF & Geoff, lot's of info there.

nelsapbm thank you for the update on the Rt. 73 bridge. This road is very important to me because being I'm 8 miles north of Rutland on Rt.7 it's the quickest route to get to the northern areas for me.

And thanks for the info on on Rt.7 SD. I take it from Bennington north on my way up.

Yes, east of 22. I take 22 all the way back to Long Island on Sunday nights but will not take that route until the construction is done.

The Route 73 temp bridge is now open in Rochester but 73 remains closed (except for residents who live off the road as its still in pretty rough shape.
"Please note that while the bridge is now open, Route 73 remains closed to through traffic. If you do not live there, you should not be using the roadway" - from VTrans Irene Response Facebook page.

Which side of Rt. 73 is in tough shape? The section from the top of the gap to Rochester was regraded & paved 2 seasons ago. The section from Brandon to the top of the gap was in decent shape without any recent work.

Just wondering.

Again thanks for the intel.

I've been from Brandon to Hathaway Road in Goshen - thats where the road closed sign is (or was 2 weeks ago). So its got to be somewhere between there and Rochester.
