I work with a guy who works remotely from his home in Utah. Last month I was in Las Vegas and spent a couple days with him hiking in Zion NP.

This morning I was reading about the forest fires out in that state and saw a picture of his house!

He and his family were evacuated yesterday and as of this morning they do not know if the house is still standing. Luckily, when he built the house he installed sprinklers into the roof, created a fire barrier around his property and covered the sides and roof with fire retardant material. Hopefully these precautions will work.

From what I've read so far no homes have been lost in Utah. I'm hoping everything turns out for the best. He's a terrific guy and I'd hate to see him lose everything. He has a beautiful home with a million dollar view of Zion NP from his front porch!

Good news! John's house was saved and he's back home. However, the danger is still there. If the wind shifts and pushes the fire back towards his house he has to evacuate again.

Really pretty amazing considering it looks like the trees in his backyard were literally exploding in flames. Hope he's out of the woods (pun intended).

Forest fires are not fun.

Remember, only YOU can prevent forest fires. Except for the 99 percent of them that are caused by lightning and such.
