The irony is, if they only ski once per year they're almost certainly not good enough to get the advantages of skiing out west. May as well lap groomers.

They only ski out west for a week once per year. This is not to say they don't ski another 30 days every year here in the east. :smash:

But if they're having fun skidding turns on flattish soft pack, does it really matter to them, or the good of the sport, where they are? Happy "customers" are an über important factor to any businesses success, regardless if it may not make sense to some other folks!

If this is true I met the exception to this in aspen. I was on the lift with a guy who said he was an anesthesiologist and there was an instructor with him. He said he only skied one week a year but it was always at snowmass with a private instructor the entire week. I ran into him again in the glades later in the day and he was definitely very good, all it takes is about 6,000 dollars of private lessons

I don't think ability matters much in appreciation of the better snow and weather a skier will experience out west 90% of the time. If anything, I think a lower ability skier or rider would appreciate the West even more than an advanced participant. My ex-girlfriend grew up in Atlanta and took family ski vacations to Colorado as a kid. She's lived in New England much of her adult life and skis maybe twice a season here and only on days after recent snow when it's 25 degrees, sunny and no wind. Those are rare here, but common out West, so she still goes out there every year without fail.

Not to mention the views, which is a big appeal to the casual skier. Being a groomer skier in Breck is a different experience than Okemo.

"This includes all land and assets for Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, N.Y., Gore Mountain, in North Creek, N.Y., and Belleayre Ski Resort, in Highmount, N.Y."

Thanks for the link love legalskier! We got a huge response to the piece, which was pretty cool.

What do you guys think about that price? $1.2B for the three mountains, the luge and the whole shootin match?

Pretty awesome 8)

BTW I agree with the earlier comment. The view alone is part of what makes skiing out west so special.
