haha still here. Was sitting back and enjoying the entertainment.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Looks like we will probably try for killington. Most of us are intermediate with a few beginners. We are looking to stay somewhere close to the lifts. Does anyone have any recommendations?

fwiw after driving 5 hrs...another hr is not that big of a difference to me

Only place within a short walk of lifts is the Grand. That's assuming Ramshead or Snowdon are open. If not, you have to drive or shuttle to K1 regardless of where you stay.

To answer the original question, at that time of year it is hit or miss. The more snowmaking the better. So Okemo is a good bet. Others would include Killington or Mount Snow (maybe?) if you are committed to Vermont. Stowe has really amped up their snowmaking system, but I don't know how fast they can react. If it is cold enough and there is snow, Sugarbush may be in play. But as to Sugarbush, being a passholder for several years I can say that snowmaking is not one of their strong points because they just don't have the capacity to make a lot at once or to get a lot of terrain open fast. I know Win doesn't want to hear it, but it is the truth.

And if you are not committed to Vermont, consider Sunday River. I drive for you I know, but a really great snowmaking system and great early season terrain.

If things dont change soon, the answer to "where should I ski in Vermont in early December", is going to be, nowhere.

exactly. I drive 4.5 hours each way from NY to sugarbush every weekend so I dont have to take lip from anyone about driving. But when someone is asking for advice on where to go from NY, it is flat out wrong to tell them that the difference is "negligible". Unless you dont know what negligible means.
I love Sugarbush but going an average of 75miles an hour on highways still takes close to six hours from NYC, How do you get their in 4 in half hours on a automobile,

You can make it in 5:15 from NYC. The problem is you cant leave between 3 and 8 or you hit traffic and then all bets are off.
I easily do it from croton in 4:30 with a stop, from 30 miles north of the city and I never go over 70. When I was in the process of convincing the wife that the drive was doable, I pushed it down to 4:05-4:15. The greens are almost directly due north of where we are in westchester so we go straight up the taconic to 22 to 7. I do drive aggressively on 22 but never faster than 65-70.. The key is starting north of traffic issues. We don't really hit any bottlenecks when we leave between 4-5pm on Fridays (except by exit 4 on route 7 in Manchester).

GF's family is from northern Vermont. I do things on 22 that would make Richard Petty or Jeff Gordon proud.

It's that way or you get stuck endlessly behind someone going 50. 22 can be very very frustrating or exhilarating. Fortunately for me, the wife has laid down the law and reigned in my more risky impulses.
Last year i was going 70 when someone passed me over the ouble yellow going about 90 and right into a speed trap. Totally nailed.

on that note, historically how many trails are open early dec?

given the cancellation policy I dont want to book if it will be very limited (and who knows with this weather)

any okemo early season experts here? Their snow report is not very detailed as to which trails are getting snow making.
Will wake up 10 mins from Okemo Saturday AM. Trying to figure out what would be best between Okemo or K. Looks like K will have more to offer and I have 2 for 1's but a consideration is my wife (abover average intermediate) but don't want her to feel overwhelmed 1st day out.
