Skier Profile: strong intermediate skier (about PSIA Level 7), 6'2" and 210lbs, 38 year old male. 20+ days this season (some with my young kids).

I'd demo'd some skis at the end of January and liked the 5 Star the best, then heard about it being replaced by the S5 Titanium for 2006-2007 and decided to wait for it. I picked it up on Friday (in 175cm), skied at Mount Sunapee in NH that day and at Jiminy Peak in MA today - conditions on both days were machine-groomed packed powder, firm and fast conditions.

In a word - AWESOME! Right off the bat, I was blown away by the energy of this ski, Volkl has taken it a notch above the 5 Star. I loved the rebound, the pop coming out of every turn, and the liveliness of the skis. I maintained good fore/aft balance and pressured the tips and the skis just dove into the turn. The more I angulated, the more the edges dug in and rewarded me with stability and just all-out fun! The edge hold was fantastic on some icy sections, and they inspired a feeling of confidence. Piloting these skis was such a blast, I was grinning at the end of every run :D

I'm running out of adjectives and phrases to describe these; all I can say is that Volkl has improved the 5 Star in ways that really suit my skiing - the difference is significant, mainly in stability and energy.
