Skied Wa Thursday night the conditions were very challenging. I'd call it "beach sand on the boardwalk". There was coarse sandy granular scattered over boilerplate ice.

Skied today and, except for not have fresh nice powder or packed powder, the conditions were great... at least until about 2:30 when it got just a tad mushy. And it was empty, particularly the summit. There was one day-time school group and they were skiing/ride mostly Minuteman. There was no line at all on the summit and maybe about a minute or two on the Minuteman as the peak. And the trails were empty!!! And the weather was gee-orr-jee-ous!!! It was high 20s in the morning and got maybe the mid 30s or maybe a tad warming by the end of the day.

The groomers are Wa are magic. I'm amazed what they can do. One thing is, when people don't show up, the groomed top doesn't get skied off that fast so conditions stay good.

One thing I learned long ago is, you always go, no matter how bad or good your preconception is. I don't know how many times I almost called off a day and was rewarded by good skiing. There's no such thing as a bad ski day.

There's snow in the forecast for Sunday/Monday and some colder temps coming so it should stay good now.

So, next Saturday it will be packed and all the new snow will be skied off by 10:00AM. It's kinda weird, the conditions are Wa are great when you think they should be awful and v.v.

Oh cover. Yeah there is a few sink holes and a couple rocks but they are clearly marked. 90% of the trails that are open are skiable with no chance of hitting kahkah if you just watch the flags.

I was teaching tele for the AMC at Wachusetts today and I agree with your report completely. I was a bit worried going in, but even early morning the trails weren't icy. Good job groomers, and let's hope for a dump onto tomorrow night.

Hey, maybe you were the guy I was watching on 10th. I saw someone on the road on 10th with four or five students explains how the skiers could use parallel turns if they needed. I was standing there with a few of my students watching what you guys were doing.

I think the diff between Wachusett and the more northerly destinations was that wa wa ambient temp was above freezing all day so it stayed spring-like malleable. Further north it was fgr which tightened up quickly.
