Trip Report:
Great night at Wachusett tonight. Spent 2.5 hours yoyoing the summit as the crowds were out by 7:30. Snowmaking was ongoing on Balance Rock, one on Conifer, and one on 10th.
Conifer: Top was slick in a few spots. Took the left side both times down and it was good packed snow the entire way... you could still see grooming marks in a few areas. Ski patrol was in control of the road early but gone by 9.
10th: Still some real ugly spots up the top, but they did cover it edge to edge unlike last week. After the initial start, it was pretty nice the whole way. Some scraped patches here and there but good LSGR to the right as per normal. Lower 10th had some snowmaking whales to jump right after the road.
Smith: Spent about 90% of my night on this. The steep was sick tonight. It was slick right before it because everyone hits the breaks there, but after that it was great. The right side had deep LSGR and the snowmakers made it a bit steeper in one part with a whale. The left side had great packed snow for a little while to zip down with GS turns but did get scraped after a while. But damn, the right side was tons of fun, too bad its so short. Lower Smith was PP edge to edge for a GS carving delight. Polar was nearly in full speed and had a decent line when I got there at 7 but dwindled each run and was ski on by 8.
Didn't hit Minuteman at all tonight, but can confirm there is a rail park where the halfpipe used to be. I'll be back up Friday hopefully.
