Trip Report:
Odd night at Wawa. Everything just seemed out of place, but I guess that's the result of a strong cold front. I'll format this one a little differently to give a better order of events.
Polar Express: Running outrageously slow (11 minute ride time!, literally stopping in the stations) up till 5:30, when it shut down for 2 hours for wind hold. Smith was groomed beforehand, but 10th and Conifer were freshly groomed during the closing. Afterwards, it ran a little faster, but much slower than normal. It was so windy, the sign in front of the lift describing wind hold blew over a few times. LOL.
Conifer: Went down as last run at 8:00 or so. I was the only one on the entire trail. Turns out 2 rangers were hiding in the woods and they chased me down for going "too fast". Give me a break. I was the only one, I was perfectly in control, and I wasn't even going too fast. They only gave me a warning, but if they tried taking my pass, I would've been to customer service faster than the chairs in the stations. Idiots. The trail was still freshly groomed and rippable.
10th: Took a few runs before grooming. Tons of debris in the trail from the wind. A bunch of random ruts from where the snow froze up. After grooming, the trail was AMAZING. Took it quite a few times and flew down ripping it up. I don't think I've ever made turns that good.
Smith: Got very first run after grooming (hell, I was the only one there) and flew down that run. Afterwards, the headwall gathered more corn than Iowa. It wasn't too hard to turn through, but it was very annoying. Too many beginners go down it and scrape it all up. Conifer's a family trail for a reason people.
Minuteman: Also running very slow. Ride times were 8 or 9 minutes. The only line was during the summit windhold.
Look Mom: Only went up once to check out the park. More ice than in a skating rink. Parks are the best when it's about 40 degrees. Soft, but fast. Today, I was just fighting to get through without slipping.
NOBODY at the mountain tonight. It was amazing. 10th and Conifer were great after grooming. Tons of flash frozen puddles on the mountain, especially at the bottom. There was one particular nasty section at the bottom of 10th. Still not sure what exactly is going on next week. I hope to take a day trip to somewhere in southern NH or VT. I'll be at Wawa next Friday from 4 PM to 8 AM. I've never skiied longer than 8 hours at a time, I can't imagine double that. Just to think some people will do all 24 hours. There is a possibility I'll be at Burke March 3rd-5th. I was supposed to go next weekend, but I want to be in the Wawa skiathon. Not too confident Burke will happen this year though. Sugarbush/MRG is pretty much a definite for March 12th-13th, Smuggs is a definite for March 18th-19th, and Killington is pretty much there as well for March 26th-27th. A busy March for me, I hope the weather cooperates.
