3/10/10
Location: Wachusett Mountain
Time: 8:30am - noon
Temp: 50s and sunny
Conditions: Corn

The trails started out pretty firm from grooming and the cold temps at night. Got a few runs in on ralph's to get my legs back from not riding for a couple weeks. Moved over to 10th and conifer after 2 runs on ralphs and conditions were much better. Snow had really softened up and it felt like spring. Spring skiing is my favorite, thus I had a great time! The lift lines were short and the weather was amazing, best day of skiing of the year for me.

3/11/10
Location: Wachusett Mountain
Time: 8:30am - noon
Temp: 50s and overcast
Conditions: Corn

Started out on 10th on one of the first chairs up. The snow was already soft and had not hardened up too much overnight. The first few runs were awesome in the nice soft corn snow. Switched between 10th, smith, and conifer all day, 10th was the trail of the day for me. Smith all all moguls which is a no go for me when on the snowboard (wished I had my skis for the bumps today in this soft snow). By the time I left at noon all the trails had pretty much turned into makeshift bumps due to the depth of the soft snow being piled up. The lift lines were non-existent today and it was ski on the whole time I was there. I think I had to wait for one char in front of us maybe twice!

Both days were amazing mornings as I was not working! Though it made going back and working for the afternoon horrible. At least yesterday I knew I would be going back boarding the next day. There is rain in the forecast and I wanted to get some good skiing in before the rain hit so I had to get out there a couple times this week. I hope the trails hold up as it is way too early for the season to be winding down! Lets hope for at least one more big dump of snow.

I was there last night. Smith was pretty bad, ugly looking bumps with everything else on it heavily scratched off. Lower smith was good, but the upper "steep" part was terrible. Saw a lot of snowboarders and skiers loosing an edge and sliding down it last night. I only did 2 runs on it.

Wawa is definitely starting to melt away. Sad to see. Looking brown at the base.

Yes, I can imagine the trails were in tough condition last night. By the time I left both days, they were getting to the point where they were almost annoying to ski. Still had an amazing two days though. I bet the trails will be even worst tonight if they were bad last night. the middle of 10th was just horrible piles of snow everywhere when I left, the last run made me work pretty hard.

I went last night (Thursday 3/11) with my two sons. It was basically wet granular snow, not super heavy, but as you say, it was all piled up and had a lot of random bumps and obstacles. Since it was soft, it was possible to cut through it, but it was pretty hard work at times.

I definitely learned a few things about skiing in those kinds of conditions. My first couple of runs were exhausting just to keep from falling down, but after a while we all started to get the hang of it. Seemed to be easier to deal with if we carried more speed. We each had one crash in the evening. Mine came when they took the NASTAR course down on challenger and we decided to hit it. I got in the rut of the old course and then tried to exit it, but one ski decided to stay on the course and I was soon doing the splits, almost recovered, and then hit another big rut which took both legs out from under me. Somehow I ended up face down with my skis pointed in opposite directions. One of my boys came over and popped off one of my skis so I could get back up. At least it was a soft landing.

Would have been really nice conditions if they had done an afternoon grooming session like they are supposed to, but for some reason they skipped it yesterday. They should have given a discount on the ticket prices for that.
