Mid-season conditions at the Wa today. I was there last weekend, and it was badly melted in places with some connector trails closed. Well, the week of cooler temps let the groomers do a great recovery. If temps stay mild I wonder if they might stay open beyond April 3rd.
They started loading chairs at 7:45 and I got first tracks on Conifer. It was mid-20's, bluebird, uncrowded, and fast. After that I started lapping Smith. They've mowed down the moguls on Smith and it was so smooth, I was setting all time personal top speed records. Felt good to let the Atomic Crimson Ti's stretch their legs.
Tenth was a little less smooth and had a couple scrapey spots just before the old mogul field area, but it was still nice too. I did a couple runs on Balance Rock, which had some scratch here and there, but since it's the only narrow winding trail at Wa, it was fun.
The crowd started to pick up around 9:30, and it was getting harder to bomb the runs. Not a lot of people, but enough to be annoying. I moved over to the smaller trails and did a few runs over there. Those were skiing okay, but were getting chopped up fast.
Packed it in around 10, had an egg sandwich, and hit the road.
Here's a shot of Tenth. Other than the moon, the sky was all blue. Base is still pretty thick in most places.
