Date(s) Skied: Saturday Night, 3/29/08
Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett Mountain, MA
Conditions: January PP
Trip Report:
Very strange night at Wachusett tonight... if it weren't for the lack of crowds you'd think it was January 29th. Conditions were mid-winter packed powder, temps were in the upper 10s to low 20s, and it was crisp and clear. Spring in New England. The snow was so dry that it didn't even stick to anything... pretty much just blew off your skis.
Conifer, 10th, and Smith: All 3 were just perfect packed powder with great cruising and great for carving. 10th bumps are finally getting lines but now they're solid... hopefully next week they'll just leave them alone and they'll be nice and soft Tuesday. A couple scratchy areas developing later on, typical for January.
Look Mom: A lot more solid than last night, especially on the landings and scraped in many places. Pipe was open and not great... it was closed during the storm, but a few people snuck in and left grooves in the walls.
Challenger: Decided to do a mock GS run as the conditions were perfect. There were a few ruts in the snow, but they just made gates to go around for the most part.
Again, ski on lifts all night. I'll be back Tuesday if it isn't raining... 60-65 degrees.
