It's official, Wachusett will be making snow tonight. There may be a strong attempt at opening this weekend or early next week. This is the same exact thing that happened in November of 2002 and they were open on November 8th after just 3 nights of snowmaking.

Well, if they can do it. I'll have to run up Sunday afternoon. Maybe Saturday. Leaves still need to be raked...

Hmm... are the season passes valid this early? If they open, do you think they'll be open during the week or just on the weekends? I have the bronze pass and would LOVE to hit the slopes on Tuesday morning!!!

Don't get too excited for an opening this weekend... just saying it's possible.

This morning, guns are going on Conifer, 10th (!), Ollie's, and Indian Summer. Can't believe they're already starting on 10th considering there's nothing on Minuteman yet.

Really -- it's usually Conifer and Challenger. Indian Summer is a little surprising too for this early.

Indian Summer is usually ready for opening. Last year, Challenger was open the day after. Usually it's the trio as soon as possible but with Conifer as the first priority. The huge surprise is 10th. It's the toughest trail to cover due to the rocks and its weird layout. Maybe they're trying cater to Greg by getting the bumps going as early as possible.]

I'm surprised they haven't started on Challenger yet, but it usually takes just 2 days to blast and open anyway so it shouldn't be much longer. Also weird that they're not blowing the base of the Polar Express.

They're blowing again tonight. 21 degrees at the base when I was there at about 7. The woman at the desk said they were aiming for next weekend (not this one), but the woman at the ski shop said the rumor mill is saying Tuesday. For what it's worth.

It's amazing how much further along the foliage is out in Princeton compared with 40 miles east in metro Boston; seems like here everything is just starting to turn. To me, it feels like the foliage has been really delayed this year? Maybe it's just my impatience. Anyways, it's very bold of Wachusett to be blowing snow, good for them.

I was there in '02. I'll be up there at some point next week if they're open at night.

That one was nuts. I think there's a picture of Conifer from that day next to WROD in the skiing dictionary... couldn't have been more than 40' wide.

No snowmaking tonight which is surprising as it's down to 30 right now here which means its probably in the mid 20s there. Should efinitely resume tomorrow and Sunday night with temps in the low 20s. This week the weather warms up to the point where snowmaking Monday-Wednesday might not happen but it looks to be cold again Thursday and on. I guess we can hope for next Saturday but who knows how the weather will shape up.

Forecast:

Tonight: 30% chc snow showers. Low around 30 (think they went too warm unless the temps have already bottomed out).
Saturday: Partly Sunny. 40.
Saturday Night: Mostly Clear. Low 20s.
Sunday: Sunny. Upper 40s.
Sunday Night: Clear. Low 20s.
Mount Snow Day :D : Mostly Sunny. Mid 40s.
Monday Night: Mostly Cloudy. 30.
Tuesday: 40% chc rain showers. 50.
Tuesday Night: 40% chc frz rain. Low 30s.
Wednesday: 30% chc rain showers. Low 50s.
Wednesday Night: 30% chc rain showers. Mid 30s.
Thursday: Mostly Cloudy. Upper 40s.
Thursday Night: Partly Cloudy. Mid 20s.
Friday: Mostly Sunny: Mid 40s.

Long range shows deep trough working in next weekend, so if that holds out it'll stay cold then. In the long term, looks like whenever they do open they should go strong to start unlike last year. We'll have to see on December though.
