Trip Report:

Picked up my gold pass last weekend so i was itching for a good ski day. Figured the storm would scare familes away yesterday.....boy was i wrong. I arrived at noon and had to park in lot 3 which sucked. The mountain was great 100% ungroomed and 3-5 inches of powder across the entire mountain. What a difference some snow will make. Started as always on theminuteman express and skied over to the summit side. Took the lift to the top and hit smith walton which had been bumped up. Next I hit 10th mountain which had some killer bumps. The things were freaking huge. Next i checked connifer and much to my surprise the trail had loads of powder and hardly a scratcy section. Of course the packs of teenagers and families were there but I find if you let them go ahead you can have a decent run. All in all the lines weret too bad. In the singles line I waited 5 minutes max for a lift.As the afternoon progressed i was almost able to ski onto the lift due to a changeover from the daytime people to the night. I practiced my tecniques all day and worked on the basics. I even hit some of the bumps. (connifer was also bumped up which was nice finally some low angle bumps!!!!) Some of the 10th mountain bumps were hard for me but I made a few good turns. A great day into night at Wachusett.

Sounds like you definitely had better conditions than I did...not that things were bad on Saturday night but I didn't have any soft snow or decent bumps/crud to play in.

Unfortunately, given the target customer at Wachusett my guess is that all of the interesting stuff will be groomed out by today...:???:

from what I understand they familized the place this morning. groomed it all. They didn't have the groomers going for the night time yesterday. Unless they groomed after I left at 545 or so.

I got there at 4pm yesterday and shortly after that time I think they started grooming the terrain off of Minuteman, around 6 they had made it over to Vickery and then by 7ish they had finished grooming Polar Express.

It got considerably more crowded at 6pm through when I left around 7:45, lift lines were running ~15m for both Polar and Minuteman. We took several runs off Vickery which I don't usually do because they had left Piece of Cake ungroomed.

All in all it was a great day, I wish my pass would have let me go first thing in the morning but there will still plenty of powder pockets to be found on the side of most trails to keep me happy and make my legs sore today.

Wa Monday 1/19/9

Just got back from wa.....missed first chair but got on at about about 0755....

I was so certain everything would be groomed I left my volkl explosivs home and ski'd my 170 head i-supershapes.

Good call. They blast thru pretty much everything below mid shin deep....

Conditions although groomed were absolutely fabulous for 1 1/2 hours. Did mostly laps on Hitchock as lift remained ski on until about 9:45. H was skiing like a packed pwdr roller coaster.......

Took one run from the top conditions equally glorious but the typical huge wa w/e/ holiday crowd was building....

At 11:15 back to the ticket desk, clipped the tix to get back the $5 and outta there.

$52!!! for wa.....wow! I'm not so sure about that......back to midweek wa on Thursday....

If you can get out tonight and the rest of the week wa should be sweet.
