Best movie of the summer*. Your thoughts?

*Technically, the only movie I have gone to the theatres see this year. So I probably am not the best judge. But a movie has to be pretty good to make me leave the house rather than waiting for the DVD to hit Netflix.

We saw it at the drive-in last weekend. I liked it much more than I thought I would. Decent animation, clever soundtrack and it made a valid statement about what we may be doing to our world and to ourselves.

This is the movie I tried to get Mr TC to go to last night, but he wanted to stay home and watch the NASCAR Race. I may go alone today, since I really want to see it and have a popcorn bucket dieing to get refilled.

Anyone notice that animated movies have surpassed most other genre of movies, with insight, plot, creativity and cast?
One of my fav's, Over the Hedge. If you haven't seen it, you should!

I disagree about animated movies. Wall-E was actually something that caught me off guard. I am not a fan of Disney nor Pixar. I respect what they do and produce but it normally does not appeal to me. Wall-E is different because it is an adult movie that kids can enjoy rather than a kids movie that adults can enjoy. Check out the vast amount of independent movies flooding the market for the genre surpassing mainstream movies with insight, plot, creativity, and cast. That even includes many "so called indies" which are really distributed through the big boys now that the majors realized having an indie branded studio would be profitable. Kind of like AB producing "Craft Beers."

I agree in that the proportion of "movies" that are good vs the proportion of animated releases...the animated releases have a higher percentage of the traits you mentioned.

I think the best movies are better than the best animated releases....but there sure are a lot of crappy movies.

My wife and daughter saw it last weekend and both loved it. Wife said she was surprised, much better than she expected it to be.

Saw it and was very unimpressed. I am a huge Pixar (and Mac) fan, this one really left me flat. Story was basicly taken from "Idiocracy" the long awaited Mike Judge follow up from Office Space. The first half of the movie was good but was not crazy about the "social" message in the second half.

I rarely watch movies, but after hearing great things about Wall-E, I saw it last weekend. Much better than expected.

Im with Hart on this one.....
Then you can split the cost. You in for 4, he's in for 4.
K? ;)

Back to Wall E...........
I hate to admit it, Can't believe I'm saying it, but, I Hart was right. Wall E is good, has great parts to it, but over all its not Great.

Many movies, especially animated movies, I'll be happy see twice, even own on DVD,(Ice Age, Over the Hedge come to mind) . Wall E is not a movie I'll be eager to see again. Good, yes, Great, No.

For those of us that have younger kids, Pixar/Disney has been a godsend! They produce a flick that has the unique ability to entertain both a 3 year old and a 30+ year old, and a flick that a 30+ year old can take a 3 year old to without any reservations. The biggest problem is that Pixar/Disney does such a great job at marketing their latest and greatest flick to the younger crowd that as a parent, you're typically into a trip to the movies for not just the $8 for a ticket and then another $8 for popcorn/drink, but then another $25 to $50 in movie merchandise :(

No need to hate. Just get used to it.

We own every Pixar movie...this won't be in our collection.

That is interesting because I have never owned a Pixar movie (haven't even been interested to see nearly all of them) but might consider this for our collection.

I have a different perspective of the movie making aspects of plot, story line, etc. I actually thought it was interesting how they incorporated "real life" movie plot lines into the animation plot line. Predictable, yes. But predictably interesting and fun as opposed to most movies that are predictable and dull. It certainly didn't break any new boundaries in story telling but it told a damn good story.

I've seen the previews for it a few times and have no desire to see it at all. Am I missing something? What's the big attraction? It looks like every other pixar/animated movie that's come out. There's enough of that crap playing on my TV for my kids. Why would I want to hand over my hard earned money to go see another one in the theaters?
