Haven't been to Hunter Mt. since my college days...It's in much better condition than what I remember....Anyway did anyone else see the black bear on that double diamond trail???I wish I had my camera. Funny thing, is that when we went to Yellowstone a couple years ago, we did not see one bear....my then 8yr old son was soooo disappointed....Anyway if I go back this weekend...I'm bringing the camera. My 3rd grade class got a kick out of my story today!!!

Thats wild. I don't hear of that much wildlife right on the trail at ski resorts. (Although I did hear of someone skiing into a moose and gettin killed at Tremblant)

Wish I was there to see it.... did they close the trail?

Yup - there's bears in them thar hills....

We got a few bears living on Hunter... Ski patrol closes trails as they move about looking for food... We saw tracks going up the Belt Parkway the other day..

And we constantly see them after the mountain closes and we hike to ski...
Keep your eyes open at Hunter and you'll see porcupines and fox too...

Its common to see a lot of wildlife when skiing in the spring. Two years age I rounded a turn and damn near ran into about 20 turkeys crossing the trail. I don't know who was more scared.

NY State DEC has confirmed there are now cougars living in the Catskill Mountains. That long tail gives them away. The big cats are back.

Where do you hike? Sounds interesting.
