took the kids to waterville on saturday. Havent been there in a few years but it was nice and warm and i figured sunnyside might be nice by the time i got out on my own.
Called ahead and asked if they had a magic carpet for little ones and was told they did. much to my dismay, they failed to mention the fact that the carpet is only for waterville camps. So their bunny slope is serviced by a j-bar. yikes. It was a total train wreck. Kids and adults alike wiping out all over the place. It was straight out of a warren miller film. One poor kid fell and had the bar slide under his jacket. The kid was dragged a solid 30 yards up the hill before someone skated down to the liftie and screamed at him to stop the lift. Seriously waterville, thats lame in 2010. Anyway, i was able to take one kid at a time up and they had a blast skiing. they thought the j-bar was awesome.
When they quit around 1:30 or so, i headed over towards sunnyside. the main quad had a line the length i haven't seen in 15 years. It was truly massive. I took quadzilla, about a 10 minute wait and skied down to sunnyside triple.
True Grit had bumps under the lift. they were typical spaced out slide and smash bumps created by today's under skilled skiers. Very easy to ski but boring as hell. Did that about 7 times and also hit the woods between bobby's and grit. They would be real fun with some new snow but were pretty boney on saturday.
