Resort or Ski Area:Waterville Valley

Conditions:Frozen Granular/Manmade PP

Trip Report: 2/23/06

Things have gradually improved over the course of the week. I'm very surprised that they've been making snow like crazy, given how late it is in the season; I'm sure that the snowmaking will push them well into the red for the year, but us skiers really appreciate it. As of yesterday, most of the open terrain was in fine shape, as opposed to the weekend when the place was essentially unskiable. There are no bump runs open, but Ciao and Gema had some moguls develop yesterday because of the snowmaking from the previous night.

Crowds have been light; the only day with any liftlines whatsoever was Monday, and even those were minimal.

It's snowing hard as we speak, and I think things will continue to improve and I would expect some crowds by the weekend.

I guess it was a good thing I waited until Monday to go...

BTW, did you see the kid take that nasty fall on True Grit? I never found out how he was afterward...

No, I didn't hear anything about serious injuries and my kids' ski program is in the same building as the med clinic, so we usually hear about anything serious.......

Incidentally, a great day today, with 4" of fresh. Only 2200 skiers on the hill today, so things are still very slow for vacation week. Snow Guns are not firing tonight, so I would guess that they're done for the season at this point.
