WATERVILLE VALLEY

WEATHER: 19F, Mostly sunny skies, no wind (yeaaahhh)

SNOW CONDITIONS: PP, LSGR, CUR

TRIP REPORT:

On Tuesday for the next eight weeks I will be traveling to Waterville Valley to race in locals league. Haven’t skied WV in over fifteen years…. I did go there four years ago but it was raining and fogged in, didn’t stay for more than two hours, so that one doesn’t count. What a beautiful day to return! Even with lift tickets at $7 (thank you Miami Dolphins) it was not that busy, probably 4 minutes max in line.
Racing began at 12:30, I arrived at 10:30 so I had plenty of time for some warm up runs. Up the White Peak HSDG and down Upper Bobby’s to Psyched. Wall to wall CUR and LSGR, skied very, very well. Next time up Whitecap to The Chute, same conditions, great snow to put your edges in and go! Did that a few more times and as race time approached went down Upper Sel’s Choice to Lower Utter to where the race was taking place. Rode the T-bar up, checked out the course, the time came and we raced.
After the race (I did well), went to explore High Country. Talked with a WV old timer and he was quite surprised when I asked what happened to the glades. Oh well, only twenty years behind the times! The trails up there are are short but fun. Still great conditions, PP, LSGR, and some deceiving POW over on Tree Line. What looked to be some great wind blown POW was not what it turned out to be, lotta land mines. Stick with Scramble until after the storm!
Over to North Face Double to do Tippecanoe. A fun blue square, repeated three times. Tangent and Periphery looked pretty scratched up and decided to skip them and hop over to Sunny side. Here, on No Grit I found all of the $7 lift ticket holders! Oblivion and No Grit were pretty crowded and scratched up at the top. One run each, back up the Sunnyside Triple and back down to the main base to repeat the trails I enjoyed earlier in the day.
Very impressed with WV and their conditions overall. Looking forward to next Tuesday.
