My brother picked me up at 6am and we headed north to Waterville Valley. Got there pretty quick. Not a bad ride up 93 at all. First thing i noticed was that the lodge was nice and had plenty of room, huge fireplace, clean bath rooms, and friendly service.
We got out there and started hitting the trails right away. Nice place. Kinda icy but i liked the trails. A few challenging runs with some small steep sections to get the blood flowing when you started jamming. I settled in as the day wore on and kept getting better,. Never fell so thats a good thing. The trails were getting chewed up and you had to search for places to turn but all in all it was great fun for an early season run.
There were trails at the top that were not open, the lift that brings you to the tippy top of the MT is very slow and the main trail coming from there was hard ice snow, plus it had people practicing for racing. Only went up there a few times.
We pretty much just skiied the top half of the MT as the lower base half was infested with people and long lines. I do have to say though, the few times that we did ski all the way down, WV valley ski patrol had the lines moving fast and it was extremely well organized. That was the overall general profile that I got from this resort. They seemed to have their act together and it showed. Or alteast thats what I saw being my first time there. For a close big mountain. I liked it alot and left pretty happy.
I would like to return and hit this place when the trails are all open and the snow is better.
