Helmet, like seatbelts, all the time. It's the other guy I'm worried about.

Started wearing one about four years ago when I purchased my first pair of quality skis and started picking up speed on more difficult terrain.

Two years ago my kids bought me a "head-liner"...a very thin fleece-like hat that comes down over my neck. Big open oval for my face. It's fabulous when it's real cold.

Speaking of cold weather reminds me of my favorite thing about the helmet. Used to wear a Turtle fur hat. The wind would go right through it and freeze my forehead. The helmet blocks all that cold.

The helmet does not impair my vision at all. The goggles are the limiting factor there (and not much of one).

The helmet ALSO doesn't impair my hearing which surprised me.

I'm a huge fan of helmets. SUre they are less effective when you're ripping it up...but it still has to be better in that situation than nothing.

I starting wearing them at Tuckermans first..
A friend took a ski to the head and it put a dent in his helmet.. Also protects from falling ice and rock..

I started wearing a skiing helmet last season...to become accustomed to it I used it Mountain Bicycling in October & November, then wore it every ski day...in the warm weather I pop the ear pieces out, and when it's cold I wear a wicking, breathable CoolMax fabric cap...

I started wearing a helmet because I want my kids to wear one...need to set a good example. I thought I would hate it, but I've grown accustomed to it and really prefer it when I'm in the woods or on something scary steep (50 degrees +).
I'm in the same camp here. I started wearing my Giro Nine last season. It took all of three hours to get used to it and it now feels completely natural. I didn't expect to wear it all the time at Reggae Fest at the Loaf in April, but the conditions and weather we more like March than April so I kept it on.

As for the example aspect, my daughter will start skiing next season and I want to be a good example for her. Some folks are in the "do as I say, not as I do" camp, but I think a little reinforcement by wearing one as well can't hurt.

By the way, I lost one the inserts in my Giro Nine. Do most ski shops sell just the inserts, or is there anywhere online I can purchase one?

try here about the inserts- they sent me free ones when my husband lost his last year, but it was still under warranty at the time. they sent them very quickly
