Hmmm…. I’ve been watching Killington’s weather as a hot potato for the past couple of weeks or so. I was extremely disappointed to see that warm-up coming up next week. I usually find www.weather.com as the most reliable source. To my surprise though, today’s forecast is big change in the weather for Killington (mountain’s temperature is usually a few degrees colder that what they say): http://www.weather.com/outlook/driving/interstate/tenday/USVT0125?from=36hr_topnav_driving

Unlike just two days ago, the temperatures are now at least 5 degrees colder than predicted and there should be only a couple of night with no snowmaking conditions. A weather turn for the better? Sure hope so…

Weather.com is a joke. It's for dentists and tourists and other wahoos who don't take their weather seriously. Don't bother. If you care aboutr skiing enough to find this board and post here, then you should care about where you get your weather information. You're much better off going to the NWS site out of BTV and checking out their forecast and reading the associated discussion.

One thing you'll notice about forecasts ths year is that many of them have consistently underestimated the magnitude of cold snaps. That's a great sign for the winter and stands in stark contrast to last year when we observed the opposite phenomenon.

Here's the only weather forecast you can rely on:

Today, it will be light, with continuing lightness until late afternoon. Darkness will begin setting in around 4.30 pm, growing increasingly dark overnight. Periods of lightness will follow tomorrow morning.

The National Weather Service Forecast looks pretty good for snowmaking to return later this weekend, but again it is only a forecast. We need about 36-60 hours - depending on the temperatures - to make enought snow to get open.
Here is the link to the NWS forecast for Killington, elevations, 3,131 feet:
http://www.erh.noaa.gov/forecast/Ma...lat=43.182917&smap=1&mp=0&map.x=132&map.y=101

Nice and thankx Tom.

This is the stuff that matters. ie the 36 to 60 hours info. That is what folks are asking for. Great job.

We need Krakatoa to explode and release a massive dust cloud to block out the sun for a few years. Of course, it would mean worldwide famine, but the powder days would be terrific.

I've got a lot of canned goods and bottled water. I'd be ok with this option.
(would need some clear goggles however as the sun might be a little blocked out)

Oh yea- warm and rainy = awesome.

I'm 20 minutes south of Killington. It rained all day yesterday, and this morning (6:30), it's still raining.

I'd second the Krakatoa option, but then again, that'd be all about me, wouldn't it? Ah, what the heck.

Looks like winter's back for next week.

Right. Hope Killington gets their act together and starts making snow. Tonight will be around 30F and Friday 28F. Then it stays cold for the next 4-5 days (low 20 at night with possible snow). The long range forecast looks fairly good till Thanksgiving (accuweather's 15 days).

I have reservations in Killington to spend 4 days skiing for Thanksgiving. I just want to see them committed to make snow; otherwise I might have to cancel the whole deal and look elsewhere...
I cannot believe that Belleayre are still on track to open this week-end while Killington with their “world-class” snowmaking, higher altitude, further up north, etc would not open for another week or so….

Actually, the ash might make a nice powder substitute. Soft, and not as cold. 8)
