Again, I'd say do either the Boy Scout Ski Weekends in Vermont (READ: KILLINGTON!!) or Pats Peak. JMHO but from being a scout leader myself I understand how some operate and see things.

No prob. We need to keep in mind that the event and the trip is about the BOYS and having fun. If they like it, leap to a bigger mountain next year

Ty, I like your first choices, Plattekill and Windham. Believe it or not before I read the post, my 3rd choice would have been Mt. Peter. It is a small mountain, close to the metro area, and inexpensive. May be boring for you, but pretty good for beginners. Me and V went there our first or second year of skiing and found we picked up more on that little molehill then at other mountains. Also, not far from there, you have Hidden Valley, which is good for beginners and you could visit Bling and checkout the tree runs he's been cutting. :)

Her skiing was great until her shmuck husband (me) decided she was good enough to ski belt parkway down. She was doing fine unti she came across a guy who broke his collar bone half way down.

I vote beltparkway the worst trail on the hill. Every Jean Claude Kille wanna be is bombing that run....had a boarder take out my son....could've been a skiier...doesn't matter....

B LIFT BABY

I still say the creek midweek...hidden valley on the weekend....

Click on my link...in any event, I think Vernon has still got to be closer.....

Geez, I guess the been busy the last several years

Actually, from LI, they're all about the same distance. Mountain Creek and Hidden Valley are withing a couple of miles of each other and Mt. Peter is about 15-20 miles from those two. Kind of like Park City NY/NJ :) Of the three, Mountain Creek is definetely the biggest, but also the most crowded.

Belleayre would be a good choice too. Plattekill is a great experts mountain, may not be the best choice for beginner/novice skiers.

Lot's of folks like Windham...I find that place more crowded than Hunter and the terrain bores me. I wind up skiing one bump run called "Wedeln" all day.

It's a pinball machine that belt parkway. The only easy trail off the top of the mountain.

Hell Vernon is almost 2 hours

Belleayre is about 3 hours

It's probably worth the extra hour. You gonna rent a bus?

A couple of years ago I took a bus to Windham to meet up with some co-workers. That company probably has buses to other areas as well. We don't know how many kids and parents will be joining us so we don't know if we will do a bus or use private transportation. Also they have not decided on a mountain yet.

Marc, maybe you should think of becoming a boy scout leader yourself.

He's already been banned by the BSA.

I was thinking Pat's Peak, too (thanks to TB), until I saw the LI day trip part. Beyond that, nothing to add but the snide remark.

Hmph... somehow I missed this...

Just because they wouldn't let me institute a "Napalm and High Explosives" merrit badge....

Nazi bastards...
