Sunday River seems to have a serious legion of fans, but at 5 1/2 hours, it's way out of the way for me based on my impression of what they offer. Now Sugarloaf, at 6+, is still a place I long to get back to...

As a fellow CTer, I can relate to the distance. One of the reasons we started at Mt Snow was the distance. We ski mostly one day on the weekends. So a 2 hour ride is doable before and after skiing. Any longer than that and it get to be a bit much. Especially since we ski on Sundays and have to get up and go to work the next day.

Now, maybe going further up north wouldn't be an issue if we had a place near/on the mountain. Staying over always makes a HUGE difference. We used to ski a lot at Burke back when I was younger...my folks would rent a condo there for a week.

+1 on your picks, Greg. Add a few hours extra for me, though. Two things that will certainly get me to Sunday River and Sugarloaf one day? BobR and Reggae Festival respectively. I do get my Bob time at concerts though...

Whiteface because of distance.
Mountain Creek, because I blacklisted them years ago
Camelback because I get bored there

For the most part, Mount Snow. Just doesn't really have any appeal to me.

Unless it's 65 degrees, beautiful bluebird day in April, with a bunch of other bump skiers.

the only reason a ski area is "off the radar" for me would be distance. I cant think of one place i wouldnt ski. some would require a good price deal to get me to go, like stratton, but i'll ski anywhere.

except i would never go to powder ridge again, and it looks like they're gone forever.

Whiteface and Sugarloaf are both "off the radar" for me even though I really want to check out Whiteface and get back to the Loaf as I haven't been since I was a kid. Both have prohibitively long travel times requiring an over night stay. Hard to justify the drive unless they get something that my home mountains do not which is fairly rare. Mountains south of Sugarbush in VT and south of the White Mountains in NH are pretty much off my radar though I want to give Killington a revisit under new management and with all terrain options open so I can give it a proper shake and I do want to get back to Magic as well.

All the NY areas, although I did get to Hunter last year. Whiteface seems like fun, but I have to go through VT to get there.

I'm surprised I'm the first to mention Bretton Woods. Not knocking it, I've never been there. Just doesn't sound like my cup of tea.

......

From Bangor(ME), it really depends on when I can get started....I need most of afternoon to get over to Vermont in time to get a good night's sleep... If I can't get going by 8pm...NH and Vermont are pretty much off the radar for the next morning... Now who knows if I grab a position in the Portland area...

So far off the radar screen...I'd completely forgotten it...Whiteface. Sounds like a great spot though.

Lots of places I may never get to, but I shudder tthink they are "off" the screen....Jay, Loaf, Bush.

I may have to carve out ski time wherever I can...work is nearly overwhelming. So, a morning trip to Wa just to get my fix may be all that's going to happen. So, when/if I get a day...how much driving will I do vs skiing?! It will depend on who I'm skiing with that day.

Probably only those in Maine are not a priority .

With really great skiing 2 - hrs from here at , Gore , Whiteface, Tremblant @ 3.hrs and a few interesting smaller hills about an hr 15 min away and those within daytrip distance of my kids places near Boston and Manhattan , or those on the way (VT and NH ) we seem to have enough scope to keep us happy

.

Thats our outlook as well. We will pretty much ski any hill if the price is right or we have good company. But if I had to pick one hill that I would stay away from it would be Stratton.

The only places off my radar are places I've been to that I don't expect to ever return to. (Did we do a thread about that already?)
