When does my home ski area open?

My home ski area operates from October into late-May, sometimes into June.

Oh wait....

I have a feeling that Powdr will get out of there in the not-too-distant future and order will be restored to the Killington schedule...

I'm guessing a major opening across the Northeast around Veteran's Day (November 12th) if for no other reason then my wife mentioned to me last night that she REALLY like it if I went to a meeting with her that she has in New York City from the 12th through the 15th, and that would preclude me from hitting up some opening weekend turns :( :spin:

I am happy to ski in Oct.

Not many places open with many trails at the start.

1 run....120+ runs its still skiing.

T2 is as long as some of the feeder hills have in total length.

I am a homer, but boyne was the only one to have lift serviced skiing from Oct to May period.

Cost me nothing extra to ski in Oct and May. I'm sure jerry G who was there in Oct and May would agree with me.

A bunch or the Sr crew made Oct 31st and the 1st weekend in May at the Loaf.

I agree 100%, Bob. One trail= open, as long as it is lift served. T2 is no bunny slope either. At least (I am guessing) 500 feet of vert and a decent pitch. I was not only happy to be skiing in October, but was happy with the skiing too. If I recall correctly, there were a couple weekends in November too where Sunday River was the only resort in the Northeast open. Not to mention, the Boyne pass was the only one that got you skiing October through May. I would have made May at the Loaf too, had I not hurt my shoulder closing day at the River. Even missing the last weekend, my season was only a couple days short of 6 months.

Jerry G and I were out in the ncp early in Nov. I had the smarts to come in after a while. Not Jerry.:-D

I was out in the ncp in early November too. After 6 months of summer, I am not going to let a little ncp keep me off the mountain! About 8 soggy runs though, and I was done.

We must know you by sight.

It wouldn't surprise me. I am a daytripper, but have skied out of Barker pretty much every weekend from opening day to closing day for the last 15+ years. Steve has my HSA poured before I even reach the bar. Boy I miss winter!

Does one trail an open resort make?

Different people will have different ways of answering this so I'll leave it at that. In my book, for as long as the resort has opened for skiing to the general public, it's open. (It sure beats getting chased off the mountain by ski patrol for trespassing!) T2 was pretty respectable on October 31. We skied from the top of the lift to midstation. I don't know how long that run is but it sure was longer than some of the runs I took at Tux at the end of the season. I remember that some trails around T2 were poach-able but closed. I reserve my rope-jumping for late in the season. Makes no sense to get your pass pulled on opening day.

Anyway, I'd rather be skiing on something in early November than just dreaming about it. I got a kick out of skiing one afternoon and then heading to a Warren Miller premiere in Boston that evening. I was still in my ski pants and people were staring at me thinking I was some goof who was jonesing for snow (I am but anyway...). I think I floored them when I told them that I just got back from skiing Sunday River!

Riverskier, welcome to the Brotherhood of the River! I'm a fellow day-tripper. Thumper is our brew of choice and Barker is our home. I look forward to skiing with you.

Even Sammy thought I was nuts, but those guys were working so hard through that NCP to keep the ramp covered, I had to oblige. Good times....
