Hi, this is my first post and i'm looking for advice in buying skis. I am looking to get the Volkl AC3 and was going to buy them now, but since the season had such a slow start I've had second thoughts. I was wondering if anyone knew if prices will drop sooner this year because of the warm weather or if I should just buy them now at full price while they still have my size?

Thanks for the advice!

Welcome...

At first I was going to say, yes probably the prices will drop a little sooner this year. At leas in ski shops on the east coast. But then again, a late start to the season, might mean a late end too, which means people might be buying gear later into the season than normal. Who knows. My bet would be, the spring sales will start the same time as last year.

Same thing probably if you are shopping on those Internets, since the west has been having a pretty nice season.

By the way, this is probably a Gear and Equipment forum type of topic.

As the season starts to come to a close I drop by my local shop once a week to check the prices. I was just in picking up my skis that were being tuned and I saw the ones I've been researching. The current price is $429 w/out bindings.

Mid feb (last big holiday week), the prices start dropping. Check out ebay, great deals in skis and bindings.

if you know what ski you want- they have older ski's on sale.
Other than that- just buy them. AC3's are popular skis and will sell out by the end of the season.

agreed I would wait till late feb early march. I have talked to a few shop owners and they say that if things do not improve they are going to be selling off a good portion of thier inventory at cost.

If you like them just go get them. I would go over the internet and avoid taxes. It is a popular ski and I dont think you are going to get any great deals on them.
Got the ac4 this year and love them

I was just thinking the same thing about the K2 PE. They aren't very likely to be hanging around for those end of the season sales.

I know Egon Zimmerman's is/was running a two for one on everything "except" AC3s, 5Stars and a few other popular skis. That means it will be tough getting them for much of a discount. And will be tough to get at the end of the year.

Plus, I have my mind set on possibly getting that same ski as well...

i believe volkl is sold out of most everything this season which means that stores can't get any more. popular skis, like the ac3, are going to be tough to find on discount. i think a good strategy would be to visit shops, especially mountain shops (who suffered the most when winter took so long to start), and make a (serious) offer. when they have you in the store, they're more likely to work with you vs taking the phone call from a guy who is obviously price shopping.

demos are also starting to make their way to the sales rack, both store stock and the demos from the mfg reps too. the reps may be posting these on ebay. you'll get demo bindings but these are usually pretty good too.
