What are you talking about? I'm taking a sick/vacation day tomorrow to go skiing. Then on Saturday we plan to hit Crate and Barrell, maybe Bed, Bath, and Beyond if we have time. I hope we have time....

It was a toss up between Stowe and Stratton. Stowe has better restaurants, and the "ski town" is better than Manchester. But, for the quintessential "Vermont Village", Dorset, close to Stratton, is hard to beat. And then there is all that shopping for the consumerism types.

I agree Woodstock is a quaint town. But to me, it doesn't feel very "Vermont like". It is a nice New England village, but not typically "Vermont".

I agree with you on Woodstock...they are so insecure about it they declared the village, "the prettiest village in Vermont" many years ago. Conversly, went to a high school hockey game there last week, saw alot of real Vermonters there. It was a fun place to be.
I love hanging out with farmers. If you could make a decent living I would have been one.

Dorset is certainly a pretty town and that old gas pump next to the front door of the General Store gives you the old Vermont feel but that is pretty much were it ends. If you drive thru from the north the first thing you see is the Dorset Country Club.

It's one of the richest towns in Vermont and home to John Irving, who everyone loved in college in Putney, he was an english professor there, but later moved to Dorset and showed his true self during the Act 60 debate. He referred to his neighbors down the road as "trailer trash" .

If your talking historical you can't get much better than Woodstock or Dorset tho. They keep a pretty tight reign on what you can do or can't do with the outside of your house if it's the village historical district. The houses are amazing.

I have nothing against wealthy towns but for me they do not qualify as real Vermont. Just my take on it. I like Betsy's choices and my personal fav is Chelsea with it's two village greens. If you ever see Jay Craven's "Stranger in the Kingdom". most of it was filmed there.

Wow, sorry for the long winded post and sorry about the hijack, back to your regularly scheduled thread topic. Bet you have a great time in Stowe!
