But how can you say NEK and KMart in the same sig?

Edit: Pick one

 Just because I ski Burke and Killington in the same season means nothing. I did not think I was forced into one or the other. I guess I missed that memo! I'll put my skis where I want to, thank you.

Besides, that is irrelevant to the discussion. But since you asked....the reason is because of my location. Again, not sure why you really care or what it has to do with the conversation.

To meet all your perameters is tough. Might be just out of your range but for the kids nothing beats Smuggs but little shopping for the ladies. Manchester is no longer "real Vermont", it's just a shopping center with a church steeple. Great shopping for the ladies tho.

I think Okemo might be the ticket. Good kids stuff, hear the terrain at JG has some challenging trails and shopping in Ludlow. Stratton would work too. Have to drive to Bratt for "real Vermont" but shopping at Manchester the other direction.

a night or two at the Woodstock Inn is about as upscale Vermont feel as you can get....quaint little town, 20 min from Killington/Pico, 10 min from the Long Trail Ale Brewery/Pub.....I've also stayed at the Inn at Manchester (a true VT B&B) and its close to Bromely/Stratton, has all the shopping outlets, snowshoeing (can stay at the Equinox too, prob better for the kids)...

I still say Stowe. For the kids you say? There is the movies, snowshoeing on the rec path, snowmobiling, etc. Also, whats wrong with hanging out with your parents and playing some board games or just chill by the fire? Those are my favorite memories from my childhood.
Manchester, a Vermont town? I'm with SRO. Manchester is as unvermont as it gets. You want real Vermont? Head to Bristol, Bellows Falls, StJ/Lyndonville, Morrisville, etc.
You want to go where tourists think what Vermont is? Then you've got Manchester, Woodstock, Stowe, etc.

The fact that you know about and mention Laura Ashely sheets makes me question the wisdom of you keeping your man card...

You would be surprised what you learn when you hang out with women. Once those restraining orders are lifted you might be able to gain some knowledge. Sorry Marc, I couldn't resist...

Sure, no problem

Well it really has nothing to do with it....and it was mostly out of curiosity

I mean, they couldn't be more different, that's all

Just never been a fan of kmart

Sorry to stir the pot...wasn't my intention...andd thank to everyone for their input

OK. Wasn't sure where you were going....and IIRC you brought it up in the fall....

My heart is at Burke. My skis go wherever there is snow pretty much. I make do.

i love thebeautiful historic town of woodstock, old houses, the river runs through it, also go on to check out quechee gorge, hike down to the bottom, or up to check out the falls, seems very vermont to me, i have never been to any of the other places, tho.

I appreciate you covering my back!

I know from experience when a lodging ad says 'Laura Ashley sheets' the owner isn't going to know much about: low priced deals, tuning skis, ice fishing, log skidding, how to fix a water pump, snow tires or which locals sell the best maple syrup.

Agreed. Especially if they aren't going to ski.

Alright, to all the women on this board, this is not true... completely.

At any rate, when you do hang around women, the minute you hear the conversation turn towards sheets, drapes, purses, shoes or celebrities, it should be instinctual to immediately hit mute and begin filling your mind with images of skiing, beer, pizza, carburetors, Heff's girlfriends, being a secret service agent, chopping wood, and comandeering the Queen's ships on the high seas.

In other words, Talisman is not exonorated and now Grassi's man card is hanging in the balance.

What are you talking about? I'm taking a sick/vacation day tomorrow to go skiing. Then on Saturday we plan to hit Crate and Barrell, maybe Bed, Bath, and Beyond if we have time. I hope we have time....

Sorry for the hijack. I have been researching the same topic. My wife is prego and I want to find a place that can keep her happy while I ski. Stowe and Stratton seem to be the best choices. Stowe seems to ooze that New England charm.

Of those two, and as a noski, I would choose Stowe. Though for the record, I hate to shop.;-)

This is a really tough crowd. I am secure enough to move on with my life with no man card as I think my divorrce decree awarded custody of that to my former bride. Sorry about your man card being threatened now Grassi!

Gotta go back to cleaning the 12 gauge before jacking some cider now that the temepratures have dropped enough to make the hard cider slushy.

It was a toss up between Stowe and Stratton. Stowe has better restaurants, and the "ski town" is better than Manchester. But, for the quintessential "Vermont Village", Dorset, close to Stratton, is hard to beat. And then there is all that shopping for the consumerism types.

I agree Woodstock is a quaint town. But to me, it doesn't feel very "Vermont like". It is a nice New England village, but not typically "Vermont".
