I'm planning a January trip to Stowe with the family. I haven't stayed in Stowe for about 15 years. Any suggestions for a hotel? A indoor pool and restaurant are important and close to the mountain. I looked at some of the mountain side resorts and was shocked at the price. I have been burned by nice pictures on the web before so real advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Depends on what you would classify as 'near'. Most hotels separate from the mountain are a couple miles down the road from the Manny base.

Check out the Stowehoff inn. I worked there for several years and it is a very unique property, has a pool though it's quite small, has a decent restaurant, each room is completely unique.

The town and country resort is an inexpensive place to stay and they have a large indoor pool and smallish(4 person) Jacuzzi..They also have a restaurant which has great Omelattes.

For a more moderate price..The Mountain Road Resort is a nice spot..way nicer rooms than the town and country and complimentary beer/wine and cheese/crackers in the lobby on weekends..They also have an indoor pool/Jacuzzi and sauna..

I stayed at both establishments on two subsequent visits to Stowe this past season..

If you think lodging is expensive be prepared for the cost of lift tickets!

A few years ago we stayed at the Grey Fox Inn with my wife and two kids ( 8 year old and a five year old) in one of the Inn Deluxe Rooms. The room was not huge but it worked for a few nights stay for a family of four. They have several inn rooms and condo options. Pool / hot tub area was nice.

Included with the room was breakfast at the onsite Dutch Pancake Cafe. There is also a low key pub.

I've stayed at the Golden Eagle a couple of times. The rooms are above average quality hotel style rooms. It has a restaurant but I'm not sure about the pool. Price is decent for $towe.

If you want cheap, I've found the Mountaineer is tough to beat.

I love staying at the Green Mountain Inn, but that's usually a once a year thing. Never done town and country but I keep hearing good things.

If a place offers a ski/stay package that should save ya some money, especially for midweek days.

I'm assuming you called for rates at the new upscale hotel at the base of Spruce. It's pretty fancy, new gondola lift over Rt 108 out the backend over to Mansfield.

The Green Mountain Inn is very nice but pretty pricey, has the best view of the weekend traffic jam and is way more than 10 min.. If they offer a ski/stay package the Stowehof sounds pretty good to me. The view from those big windows must be awesome.

For the value, the Mountaineer is probably the best and closest to the hill. Stoweflake and Topnotch are plasticy, if you are going to spend that kind of money, pony up the extra cash and stay at Spruce Peak. I also worked at the Stowehof, nice place, homey, etc... The view is great, you can see across the valley, very nice at night time. Also, they have sleigh rides, actually got engaged there on one.

In terms of lift tickets you should check out Stowe's vacation rewards program. Don't know if they've posted prices for this year yet but we've saved a ton of money. You need to buy the tickets in advance. Also, if you join the Vermont Travel Club you can get discounted tickets for several mountains. Stowe was one last year. We joined it last year and got some really good deals.

I met a couple of his fraternity buddies over that time, only one that was an avid skier.

Keith?

I lived there from around January of 2000 - September of 2001.

Lived with George the winter I came up and made snow at sugarbush.
