AZ has been entirely negligent in it's ski area construction oversight and supervisory role at Shawnee. :???:

The replacement of the Riblet triple at Shawnee with a CTEC taken from Loon began in June, expected to run much faster.

It will utilize a Emmegi conveyor loader.

"The new system will allow the chair to run at 525 feet per minute - approximately 25% faster than the old Summit Triple. Users will wait behind a gate and, when it’s their turn, simply step on the moving conveyor, which will automatically load the skiers onto the faster-moving chair.

Ski area operators who utilize similar loading systems have discovered that "stops and slows" decrease by more than 50%, giving the riders a much faster ride up the mountain.
"With a faster speed and fewer stops and slows, the New Summit Triple Chair is a monumental improvement to the skier experience," said Homer. "The use of this loading system will provide uphill capacity similar to that a high-speed chair at a significant cost savings."
Emmegi Ski, a European company, is the manufacturer of the technology and has installed hundreds of conveyor systems in Switzerland, Italy and France. American ski areas have recently embraced the innovative technology. Shawnee Peak’s loading conveyor system will be the first installed in Maine."

Those conveyors can be great for on slope comedy. In France I have seen people thrown off the end of them down 6-10 feet. At Mt Snow I have seen many a person taken out by the chair if they are slow to get on the belt.

Yup, folks that can't READ the sign that says LEAN ON THE GATES often to a good job at screwing things up. I will say though that since Mount Snow installed that loading carpet, the Grand Summit Express does stop less and goes up fully loaded more than before the conveyor was there, but there is a slight learning curve with it

Sweet chopper.... Looks like a nice upgrade for Shawnee. It will be interesting to see what type of carnage the 525 foot/minute lift speed and carpet will bring. Hopefully it works out well and others will consider the setup. Time will tell.

Rumor has it that when Sugarloaf replaced Spillway with a FG quad, it's gonna have a conveyor.

Nope. Sunbrook had its line speed increased after they removed about 30 or so chairs from the line to increase the spacing between them. Highly doubt they'll spend the $$ on a carpet for this season, as this time next year they should be approaching completion on the upgrade of it to a high speed qad :

x2...if people would just follow directions, it would be a lot easier.

What's the benefit of having a conveyor on a HSQ? I assume that top speed for that lift is a 1000 fpm, maybe even slower due to age, but more importantly, the chairs already slow down when they come off the line. It just seems like a waste of money.

Considerations: a stop and subsequent start on an HSQ uses a LOT of power. Also, a stop and subsequent start on an HSQ takes longer than on a fixed grip and thus decreases uphill capacity more dramatically.

For the "average" intermediate and above skier/rider - not much since they tend to not have a problem making the shuffle/slide out from the wait line to the load line.

For the beginner/low intermediate/ski school instructor with a group of kids/beginners, a parent with a young kid(a decent percentage of the folks that ride the Grand Summit Express at Mount Snow on a weekend/holiday), the benefit is huge! The conveyor will put 4 people at the load line with little more effort than them just standing still. I know that it made my life as a parent when I was bringing my kids, especially when one of them had just turned 4 onto the lift. And as I said before, anecdotally atleast, it stops much less on a busy weekend and heads up the hill with a greater percentage of full chairs then before it was installed. I also know from talking with various folks of the Mount Snow Management team that they have been very pleased with the carpet since it was installed

Hey, we need to make sure we refer to it as "Shawnee Peak" and not "Shawnee" to avoid confusion between the ME and PA resorts!!!!

It's like college football and saying "Oklahoma" when you mean "Oklahoma State"...THERE IS an "Oklahoma" (of course!) so you can't leave off the "State."

An old war between Ohio Univ. and Ohio State University actually went to court or arbitration at some point over the usage of just "Ohio." I think it was the genesis of why Ohio St. players in the NFL (and everyone else connected with the OSU, for that matter) always drastically emphasize "THEE Ohio State University" during introductions on MNF and such.
