Date(s) Skied: Dec 29th through 31st

Resort or Ski Area: White Face Mountain

Conditions: Packed powder, ice, spring corn

Trip Report: Annual Christmas break to WF. Drove up on the 28th, winds were honking. Later heard all lifts but lower valley were closed, no surprise there.

Wednesday (29th); Winds abated but still gusty at times. Operations did a fantastic job blowing snow and repairing the wind-buff damage. But as expected with the holiday crowds, it soon got scraped down to the frozen cat tracks in places on many of the popular trails. Blowing snow on Mountain run and that was were I spent the majority of the day lapping it off of the little whiteface lift with mid-station off loads. Fantastic conditions, relatively light crowds. WF delivered nicely. Summit was open but only parrons. Fun all the same.

Thursday (30th); Holy crap Batman! Bird blue skies, temps in the low 30s at mid station. Crowds were big but as long as you did not ski to the bottom and worked the mid mountain lifts the lines were minimal. Once again, mountain run, thruway and lower wilderness were the ticket. Bumps bumps and more bumps. Great conditiuon too for the most part until late in the day. Wilmington was opened too. Whales on top and hard but still able to set an edge. Nice farther down. Saved the willy for the run into the lodge for lunch to avoid loading at the bottom again.

Friday (31th); Again, bluebird skies and temps in the mid 30's at mid station! Spring corn in December. I do not have a lot of experience at WF but never have the conditions been so good. Essex, which gets scraped up pretty quick was good all day. Mountain run and thruway were increadable (but the groomed the bumps down). Upper skyward was the run of the day. Corn all the way down where they shunted you to niagra. I hacked niagra falls in the center for the first run. Later laps I did skiers right on NF were my skill set was better able to handle. Corn corn corn! Stopped at 3:30 totally spent and happy. Best day ever there.

I gotta return there again when it is fully open. Looking at all the cool trails off of Approach that I never have skied got me really joinsing. Also the slides are amazing looking. This mountain is impressive. Best of all, my non-skiing spouse loves it up there.

Happy New Years all.
