Trails(s) Hiked: Beaver Pond, Mattatuck
Total Distance: 2-3 miles?
Difficulty: Easy
Conditions: Dry
Special Required Equipment: None
Trip Report: Took a quick hike at White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield, CT yesterday. I loaded my daughter up in the Kelty Pack and we left the trailhed on the East side of Route 63 in Litchfield around 10:00 AM. We quickly made it to Beaver Pond and continued on to the Info sign off Isiah Smith Lane. Turned around and took a section of the Mattatuck Trail with a nice walk through the pines and views of Teal Pond.
Saw a few dog walkers and a couple of mountain bikers. We returned to the car around 11:20 AM. I've hiked through the area a number of times, and while small with no elevation gains/losses, there are a number of trails to choose from with pretty views of some ponds and marshes. The terrain is very easy and a great place for beginners to try hiking. I look forward to trying the rest of the trails in the East section before moving on to the West side. For more info:
