X-mas and Presidents weeks are the 2 most crowded weeks at Whiteface. That said, they are the 2 most crowded pretty much everywhere. So relatively speaking it is crowded by WF standards, but it will still be less crowded then most other major East coast areas.

Lake Placid will be booked up, but there is so much to do in town that a lot of “casual skiers” don’t ski everyday of their vacation.

MattChuck2 or one of the other Gore regulars can fill you in on Gore.

SKIADK is a great place to get info from regulars at both mountains.

Whiteface plan for the holidays. No sense getting there early. All the joeys are there first thing and the trails are really crowded. They usually take three four runs. Get over to the hill around 11. Stand in line for 20 minutes to catch the ghondola and then dont go back to it till 2. I will be crowded until about 1:30. it thins out quick and by 3 you will be on trails with very few others. Stay away from the bar it take 69 minutes to get a beer. I think

Haha . . Nice . . .

Gore is pretty good with the crowds . . . Being mostly a commuter resort (and not a destination resort), its main crowds are on weekends. So I'm thinking the 27th and 28th will be a bit crowded, Christmas and the 26th, not so much.

I've skied the last 6 Christmas days there, and I've never waited in a lift line.

As far as terrain, though, it's a crapshoot. According to skiadk, it looks like we were skiing glades last year with a lot of cover on a lot of trails . . . But two years ago, the had just barely gotten Hawkeye open to go with 6 other trails.
