They have these signs (magnets) on the towers on the why up the Summit Chair. They let you know when you've past the highest vertical point of other Northeast mountains and by how much. I think they're cool.

I know vertical isn't everything, but nothing is everything and everything is something.

just the 2? Or are there more?

Sorta like St Peters - in the floor they've got embedded plaques that say where other cathedrals around the world end...

Sugarloaf used to have one before ASC. About 2/3 of the way up the double runner chair, it said "If you were at Sunday River, You'd be at the top."

There are several more. BTW, good analogy, I think as St. Peter’s is to cathedrals around the world, Whiteface is to Northeast skiing. Hallelujah and Amen brother.;-)

I was surprised how high up stratton is. It is kinda neat to look at them. In there infinite wisdom they put them up with magnets. They keep falling off when it gets real cold. They think people are stealing them. You would have to have 8 foot long arms to reach out and grab.

It'd be funny if someone put one up that read "if you were @ Loveland, you'd be a third of the way up right now"......

It would be more stupid then funny. Loveland has a vertical drop of 2,410 feet, WF’s is 3,430. Now in no way am I trying to say that skiing WF is better then skiing Loveland, it’s apples and oranges, but we’re talking vertical not elevation. Loveland’s base elevation is 10,600 feet.

The sign you suggest would have to say "if you where @ Loveland you'd be 6,500 feet underground." Keep it real.

whoa. what does "keep it real" mean?

Personally I think the signs are stupid. Why are they even there? If you're reading it, you've already made your decision to go to WF, so why trash other resorts? Seems a little cheesy to me....but whatever floats your boat....

Perhaps Mad River Glen, Stowe, SB & Jay....

.....can have magnetic signs at their snow stakes that say "If you were at Whiteface right now.....you'd have already received your seasonal snowfall total". These friendly Northern VT neighbor/competitors would be able to post those signs about when.....early January ?

I like Whiteface (and Gore)....but instead of the vertical.....give me the PILES and PILES of extra snow that their neighbors to the east in VT enjoy. Love the view from Mt. Ellen over to WF, btw.....

They're referring to vertical, you're Loveland take was about elevation.

I guess they needed to find something they could compare favorably with against those mountains pictured above ;) :spin:

Well yeah, why wouldn't you market your positives. Plus you've never been to WF so you don't know that for sure do you? Don't go acting like an Internet expert now, I expect better from you.

See now you're not keeping it real.... January? We got over 200 inches again for the 5th straight year or so. N.Vt. gets more, but 200+ ain't bad.

I like that view too when I've skied SB. Sometimes on a very clear day I think I can see Sugarbush from the summit of WF, but it's hard to say for sure cause all those little green hills look kind of alike.

Think it means that either you didn't read his original post, or you didn't fully understand it. Just sayin'

I read his original post. I just didn't really get it I guess....I do now...and believe me, I'm sure I'd love WF and I certainly love VERT, but as far as the magnets, I'm not a fan.
