In the early 90's I was big into USSA Mogul Skiing. My idol at the time was 1992 Gold Medalist, Edgar Grospiron. For a couple of years he dominated the circuit, amazing to watch. Also had great appreciation for US Mogul skier Scott Kauf during my teens

My inspiration was John Philbrick. A personal friend who was skiing Tuckerman Ravine in his 70's! That man was a wealth of information and one of the most humble people I have ever met. He has climbed the Matterhorn in Switzwerland, Kala Pattar in the Himalayas, Machu Pichu in South America,Mckinley in Alaska and hundreds of other peaks. He was an amature astronomer who traveled to the far corners of the earth to view celestial events. He was in the Phillipiens during the coup against the Marcos' family when his hotel was hit by rocket fire.
He always had time to talk to me and share stories. He loved to hear of all my skiing and hiking adventures as he got older. A man who never smoked a day in his life and died of lung cancer less than two weeks after being diagnosed. I dont know anyone who lived life to the fullest more than John and he still inspires me to this day and is my idol.

Plake is in his 40s and is still making a living skiing. That is a dream. Travel all over ski the world and he hasn't been in jail in a long time.

Steve Desovich cause he was the first bumper i saw at killington that made me absolutely stop in my tracks. and he is from ct to boot. Chuck Martin cause he was at castleton at the same time as i was and was a cool guy and a great drummer to boot as well as a kick a$$ bump skier.

Johnny Egan. I saw him beat John Witt from Killington in a pro mogul comp with one ski. They disqualified Egan but he still was the best. He raced both moguls and gates as a pro in the same season. He was the first " Ski God " I ever saw.
Once, in about 1971, I saw these two guys skiing fast under the single at MRG and they hit the cliffs without slowing down ( the only way ). They had real long hair and long skis. I turned around and asked my father who they were and he said" must be ski bums. "
"What's a ski bum?", I asked.
Changed my life!

My skiing idol may not have as familiar a name today, but was a major contributor to organized skiing, as we know it today. He was a true pioneer of the sport.
For some highlights of him, he was: president of the NSA for 12 years (1936 - 1948 ); President of the International Ski Association (FIS) from 1946- 1953; instrumental in the founding of the National Ski Patrol and the 10th Mountain Troops and my elementary school principal (1970's). He was the man that I affectionally know as "Mr. Ski", Roger Langley.

His Buddy, "William Robinson" was also an idol for me...he really got me into skiing and ski history. http://teachski.com/articles/bill/atribute.htm

I do not think that his name has yet been mentioned, but Warren Miller is my skiing idol. It's hard to find someone so passionate about the sport, besides that, he is one funny guy.

Jeeesh... I feel old....
Phil and Steve Mahre
I watched every race they ran.
I finally got Phil's autograph this year.
I don't think skiing will ever have groupies though....

Ran a ski club in the 80's, we always got a Warren Miller Flick or two - they would send them to us for free; it was either that or wait for the tour. Life would stop in September as we loaded these babies up. This was before widespread VHS distribution was happening, so we only had a narrow window to watch, so we never could get enough.
