SR was on heavy wind hold (again) on Monday so my day there got cut way short. It looks like today and yesterday was ok there. How has Loon been for wind lately? To SR's credit, they've been mentioning these wind holds recently on their snow reports, but not early enough in the day to save me a drive. The weather reports lately aren't helping. Loon has not mentioned wind holds every time I've checked, but their reports aren't chatty, like some others. They just seem to give you numbers.

I'm skiing Friday and am trying to choose between the two.

They closed the upper mountain lifts last Thursday or Friday or whatever that day last week was with really high winds. That's the only time I can think of this year. The area's pretty sheltered I think. At worst they close the Gondola and North Peak in high winds, usually keeping 7 Brothers and the Kanc Quad open - leaving the bottom half of the mountain still open, with lots of good terrain. Loon doesn't really have a run out like a lot of mountains. I ski the Kanc Quad for hours on end when there are no lines.

Oh, and the conditions were the same as everywhere else. Dust on crust essentially. That was last weekend though; acc. to the website they've been making a lot of snow, and picked up a few inches today.

I skied Loon today, first gondola to sweep. Great conditions after getting some fresh snow overnight and a good extra snow storm that started midday. Patrol re-opened natural snow trails Big Dipper and Triple Trouble and after a couple powder runs in the AM they started forming nice soft bumps.

Also, the snowmakers are continuing to resurface trails that were hit hard by marginal weather a week or so ago. They've moved back to Cruiser on South Peak. Hopefully the new trail Ripsaw will get its first day of snowmaking soon.
