start with x

multiply by 3 to get 3x

add 3 to get 3x+3

Multiply by 3 to get 3(3x+3) = 9x+9

Factor to get 9(x+1)

and viola, the result is a multiple of 9 and every multiple of nine has a digit sum of 9.

your way ahead of me with the cypher definition,old math trick if you transpose a number while attempting to balance a group of numbers the amount you are off is divisible by 9
