Why do you want to go on an AZ outing?

The last few years with getting married and having kids I've lost track of some skiing buddies and others have moved away so it's gotten tough to find people who "really" want to ski. I go with relatives and what not, but i"m a better skier than all of them and even though it's a good time I don't get challenged. They are all happy where they are and won't take the trails I want to take. So I either go along with them or ski alone.

I want to ski with a group of people who ski better than me and will make me improve. I want my ass kicked.

And I just want to meet some new people who enjoy skiing as much as I do.

How about you?

We do quite a few outings in the season. Usually we meet up about an hour into the day to give the later arrivers time to get there. Take a run of two together see how the group is able to stay together. Then some brake offs happen ... meet for lunch. follow same plan as morning in the Pm and meet for Apres ski.

I have been involved with more at the river, but Reggae weekend I go to the Loaf. Last few years Charlies S has led a group there. We did a Cannon one lst year well attended. Night outings have become weekly in Ct and NH (pats peak) Thaller1 leads a bunch of cross posters on a team at Shawnee peak during the week. Not hard to find us. 15 of us hiked near Sunday River in July. Hence Terry's avatar.

If you want to meet folks, post an event in the trips and events folder. Most of the regulars will help you support it. Love to have another regular at events. We are not as organized az the K-zoners, but we do well.

My favorite type of AZ outing is a greoup size of about 3-5 of similar abilities. Sometimes the large outings are fun too though, as is just skiing with one other person.

Seriously .. it would be nice to meet up with a group after work one day per week .. you know something Like gregg:wink: and his groupies do at Sundown.

Propose something in T&E!

I like putting faces with names.

The ass kicking is always good too. At the beginning of last season my solo days were fun but kind of lame cruiser days. After a the Hunter AZ outings and a few trips to Sundown on Wed. night I started to see some improvement. More speed, control, stamina. Sundown showed the biggest disparity. I would be cruising runs until the gang showed up. Once the group formed I would start bombing runs and pushing myself. By the end of the season even my solo days were more intense. I did a solo day at Catamount where I literally full down in the bumps out due to fatigue. My legs felt like led that night. Looking forward to some more ass kickings this season!

Same boat as Wa-Loaf, more or less. Lost touch with most of my skiing buddies as we got older and i found myself skiing alone more often then not. My brother used to ski a quite a bit but now i have to practically beg him just to go once. I skied with the G's from kzone (good people) a few times and realized that meeting other skiers via the internet wasnt completely creepy. Migrated to this forum, met greg and now with all the outings and our wednesday night sundown crew, i cant imagine skiing alone 15 times a year. Not that i'm against skiing alone but i find myself to be a better skier when i'm with other people. More aggressive, which is in part due to the fact that i know if i get hurt, i'm not gonna lie there for 30 minutes waiting for someone to find me.

To get in Gregs' video's of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not really, but he is video king. You guys said it all already. I ski alone a lot, and when I met up with Greg and co. at MRG last year it was a blast! And one big factor I don't think mentioned yet, is that someone usually knows the hill the gathering is at, and can act as tour guide. Such was the case with Madskier6 at MRG. He brought our day to another level and I never had to worry where I was going............
Plus anyone posting on this board has the same addiction and attitude about skiing. I can't talk to anyone else in my life about skiing and have them get it. At work they just think I'm nuts and ignore me!

Ironically enough this was one of my concerns early on as well. ChileMass and skijay were the first AZers I met, the next season I met JimG. Hard to believe I've known Jim personally going on 3 years now. Since then I've met and skied with many more AZers and everybody has been pretty cool and not whacked out at all (well, except maybe Marc). This is precisely why I try to present myself online pretty much how am I in person. As far as ability, it seems I fall right in the middle of the AZers I've skied with which is nice. Sometimes I'm the better skier, more often than night I'm trying to keep up!

Totally! I often times find myself rambling on about skiing to people that couldn't care less about it...

Over on PAskiandride..there are so many season passholders and regulars that ski Blue mountain (18 miles from me) that everyday seems to be a PASR day and it's rare if I don't have anybody to ski with..that leads to longer sessions and more fun...It can get boring riding the lifts alone...

One thing I've noticed is that ski days with AZers fly by as compared to skiing solo. The lift rides seem almost nil since we spend the time just BS-ing about skiing and recent happenings on the forums.

With all the voices in your head, is it ever really all that quiet?

Snap..Marc got owned...When I ski the local hill I like to have company..when I'm skiing at Jackson Hole..I prefer to ski alone because I like to hit all my favorite spots and hate waiting for people.

It's interesting that this is brought up...as a new(er) skier, I usually get the :roll:s whenever I go off on a skiing tangent with co-workers, family, and friends. I'd like to get out with others who can ski as well or better than me, and going out on an AZ outing would be a great way to do that. But even after meeting up with a few AZers (all of which were nothing but nice and decent and were obviously better skiers than I am) the whole idea of meeting up with people you only know in an online forum is still kinda weird.

That said, I'll be at Pats Peak on a regular basis this season and would still be amenable to meeting up with some AZers on a weekday night...may not be there on race night, but I want to make good use of my pass. I promise I'd do my best to keep up...

I enjoy having my butt kicked so I try to find a group of skiers who will let me ride with them. This saves me money because now I don't have to pay some one to do it. The only way I can get somebody to ride with me is to pay someone for some lessons. Sometimes the group thing can be a pain ..what trail do you want to do next??. ends up being a 5 minute discussion. I am at Shawnee Peak 3-4 nights a week. Let me know if you want to meet up sometime.

Wow, Marc and I agree!

I have so much craziness in my life right now that I yearn for the quiet of skiing. I haven't met any of you in person, other than a brief encounter with Greg when I brought our oldest to visit with Brian at Sundown one evening. I know you all are well beyond my ability to ski so I'm a little hesitant to even go with you. But it would be nice to put faces to the names.

I don't think she wants to start up again this year (although I may try to get her out to the Sugarbush trip) but my wife has skied only a little more than you and not at all in the last 4 years. If I can get her out I think she'd be a good ski partner for you.

Thankfully my wife skis, as well as my sister in-law and her kids. Now when I really want to get my ass kicked , I just hook up with a local out west.... Not to say I don't get it kicked out here, but you can really get in trouble....out there. And I am looking forward to some AZ gatherings.

So that I can prove to Marc that Kazakhs really are good skiers...
